Recovery Information
Recovery Notes:
On 10/17/2012 a craigslist user saw this bike listed by Shining Bikes and Things, cross-referenced it against the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry and alerted the victim. Her husband and a friend went to the shop with police report and original sales receipt in hand. Per victim shop employee claimed "we check the registration of all bikes that come in" and questioned whether she had registered the bike. Chicago police refused to intervene, reportedly stating "he (the shop owner) has rights too." The bike was stripped of lights and fenders but had been given new tires. The victim plans to follow up with Skokie police to see if there can be legal consequences to the shop.
