Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I first locked up my bike on June 29th – prior to this I did not have a bike in Chicago. I hung it next to two other bikes (one of which has been there without a lock for weeks) in a nook underneath back stairs at the far end of the alley, completely out of view from the alleyway. I locked up the bike with a metal chain looped through a hole in the wooden frame, and used a combination padlock through the front tire. I then used a combination U-lock that locked the bike frame to the front tire. According to the security footage, a man walked down the alley at 3:35am and seemed to know exactly where the bikes were stored. He went back to his car and grabbed a tool to cut the lock or chain, and returned at 3:38. By 3:40 you can see him removing the bike, and at 3:42 he drives away. Given that my bike was hanging there for less than 48 hours, out of view of any passersby, it appears that this was a targeted theft with the thief having prior knowledge of where to find the bikes and going after mine specifically. This is corroborated by the fact that there was another bike right next to it that was easier to steal (no lock) and several Amazon packages also right next to it that would have been equally easy to steal.

The business would not allow me to leave my bike inside even for a few minutes so I left it in front. It was stolen pretty quickly.

Don’t know exactly when it was stolen as I had not gone in my bike room for a few days. Went in there today looking to ride it and it was gone.

Someone entered our gated back parking lot and climbed up to our porch via the rear staircase. It appears that they then cut the chain lock holding the bike to the porch.

Locked up bike at 1:41pm, entered Lincoln Park Athletic Club to workout, came out at 3pm to the lock cut. Video captures the lock being cut at 1:44pm right after I entered the gym.

Bike was parked in front of of Subway in Northbrook, my son rode the bike to work at the Ace hardware and then left it there for couple days, when he went to look back for it , it was not there. We had bought this bike in Dallas Texas in 2012 for about $600.

Bike locked overnight 6/27-6/28 with cable key lock to street sign in front of apartment building. The next morning there was no bike or lock.

bike was double locked at oak st beach. The lock was cut and left on the fence. Blue E-Bike Scott Sub Active. 250 miles on it.

Bike was locked to bike lock outside of shake shack, lock was cut open and bike was stolen.

The security office at 300 E Randolph St let me know that my bike was stolen at 11:15pm outside of the office building. I am not sure if they cut the lock or what happened, but they do have video footage but can only release to the police.

Went into the restaurant for 30 seconds when a man took and pedaled away with the bike.

Left in the early afternoon and came home around 7:30pm to the back door of my building wide open and my bike missing from the bike storage area of my building.

Parked moped right in front of my home on Permit (383) street. It was stolen between 5:45pm Friday (20th) and 8:20 am Saturday (21st). Its front wheel & handle bars lock with my key so I'm not sure if they loaded it into a truck locked or were able to break the lock & roll it away. No cameras in my area were able to capture anything.

Walked past storage room for properties bikes, saw the chain was unlocked and my bike was missing. Checked the airtag and it was miles away. Made a report to the cops which returned nothing.

Walked out of work at Old Town School of Folk Music to find my Bike gone

The bike was stored in my private, single-car garage behind my duplex. Nothing else was stolen except for my bike.

Bike was stolen from unlocked front patio shed at 4:15am. Incident caught on ring video.

My bike was stolen out of my garage while I was out of town, sometime between June 14 and June 17. I don't know whether someone broke into the garage to steal it or whether the garage mechanism somehow failed and opened on its own, and someone took the bike while it was open. I had left the garage shut and locked but a few days later neighbor noticed the door was open, so my friend came by and shut it, then someone saw it open again, and my friend shut it again. The bike was unlocked in the garage. It is a 53cm purple Trek 1220 with a helmet, two water bottle holders, under-the-saddle bag, and lights.
