The thief simply cut the cable, rolled away on the bike, and left our ulock dangling unharmed. We generally did not keep the tandem in the garage, but circumstances did not allow us to bring it into our unit on Friday night. Someone had left the garage door open for a few hours on Saturday morning, so the theft could have occured anytime between 7:00am and 10:00am.

The criminals took the locks with them. Admin note-- upon request for clarification victim offered: "I usually use a U lock to lock the front wheel and frame to the pole that I am locking the bike to. I also string a flexible 4 foot metal cable through the rear wheel and thread the ends through the u lock to prevent my rear wheel from getting stolen. I started doing this after I had my rear wheel stolen a few years back when I lived in Wicker Park." Both the bike lock and cable were made by OnGuard.
