My bike was kept in my garage...a roommate left the garage door open and bike was taken from inside

I locked my bike on Columbus Ave. and went to the Taste of Chicago. There was a police presence on the street.

I had locked my bike up at around 4:00 in the morning to a bike rack outside of California and Division in front of several closed businesses. I walked out at 5:45 to ride my bike to work to find it missing. I did not go outside to check it between 4am to 5am. I am assuming it was earlier in the morning due to the traffic that usually happens around the later evening. The bike lock is also gone.

Locked bike to street post with a U-lock, both through frame and front tire, outside of the Whirlaway Lounge (3224 W. Fullerton) around 11:45 PM. I'm typically wary about locking to a pole, but there was a door man for the establishment hanging outside. When I exited it was apparent the pole had been unscrewed and lifted so that the bike and lock were able to slide right off and be take. Pole was replaced to previous position, only with the screw missing.

My bike was last seen in our storage area of our building on June 28th. We left for a vacation and the bike was still here when we left. The bike wasn't locked to anything, but it does have wheel locks and I still have the key to these locks. The bike wasn't locked because this storage area is only used by my unit. The people who live on the 1st floor the building do have access to this area, but don't use it because there is no storage for them. The lock to the door to this area doesn't appear to be tampered with so it is thought that someone who does have access to this door exited the building this way and didn't fully close the door (it automatically locks, but must be closed all the way). There was a brown Whole Foods grocery bag left where the bike was. This bag contained used children's books (Dora the Explorer) and about 5 Pornographic DVDs as well as a Red Eye dated July 3rd. I just noticed the bike was missing today as I was going to take it out for a ride. I figured it was stolen on July 3rd (based off the red eye newspaper I found in the bag) while we were out of town. I have reported it stolen to the police and have called the play it again sports store near me, but so far nothing has come up.

Bike was parked right outside damen brown line entrance (gas station side). Was locked by u lock on bike racks right outside station exit. Left overnight. Thief most likely took back wheel off in order to steal bike. U lock went with it. Stolen in Ravenswood area.

I last rode my bike a couple weeks ago and have been keeping it on my fully enclosed wood fenced in patio in lincoln park. The patio is not visible from the street and you cannot see onto the patio. This means someone opened the gate, came onto the patio, and removed the bike. It was not locked as I did not believe someone would come onto my personal property or even know my bike was there. When it was stole the black u-lock was still attached to the bike.

Left a friend's apartment to discover my bike had been stolen.

Someone cut the cable and stole my bike. Probably early in the morning when there isn't alot of people around. Parked in front of Ogilvie Transportation Center. Picture is very similar to my bike stolen. It's from a Craigslist ad. ************************ On July 12, 2013, the victim writes that he found his bike but was unable to recover it: "I posted about my stolen Schwinn Le Tour that occurred yesterday at Ogilvie Transit Center at 500 W. Madison. The picture I posted was from a craigslist ad that was posted a few hours after I had parked my bike and last seen it around 5:30am. I contacted the seller, went out to meet him in Skokie and took police to accompany me in case it was my bike. This guy had about 30 bikes in his garage. The bike he was selling was my bike but unfortunately I never wrote the registration number down since I just got the bike a couple weeks ago and it was my first bike ever. The one distinguishing feature I could recall was the chain guard was bent. Curiously, my bike was the only in his garage that had the chain guard removed. I had filed a police report yesterday but since it wasn't as detailed as it needed to be they couldn't take the bike from him since I couldn't prove it was mine. I'd urge you to add a note to your website to make sure you document any little thing you can remember from your stolen bike that can identify it. Scratches on the paint, tear in the seat, markings and stickers, etc. And beware of a guy in Skokie selling all types of bikes on Craigslist. He got very angry and defensive and couldn't prove he bought any of the bikes he has. But if someone has the fully descriptive police report and scans Craigslist to see their bike posted, they may be able to call Skokie police to assist them in getting their bikes from this guys garage. Hopefully this helps someone else, so pissed still but thanks for your great service."

I work at Ready Coffee (right next to Myopic Books) in Wicker Park. Bike was parked right in front of storefront, locked to a bike rack. It was there when I walked down the street, and when I walked back it was gone. The front tire is still there, locked to the bike rack with the u-lock. This had to happen between 2:30 and 3:00pm. Right pedal was missing and right brake did not work. A lot of the lettering is scratched off.

Garage Door was opened or left open and the bikes were taken together.

Neighbor came home to find the garage door open. I went to retrieve the bikes but they were gone. I imagine someone has some sort of garage door opener that they programmed to get the door open. The gate and garage door were both locked.

The bike was parked outside Montrose Beach for Wavefront Music festival during July 4th holiday. The bike was straight across from the entrance amongst many other bikes that were locked up. My friend and I decided to lock both of our bikes together to the metal fence with a kryptonite ulock and chain. The chain went through both wheels and frame of both bikes. We came to find that there was no trace of bikes or lock, or damage to fence.

Who ever stole it saw the opportunity to steal two, it was also locked to my boyfriend's hybrid Trek and both are fairly new.

Someone broke into the bike room and cut the cord that acted as the post for locking the bike frame to. The bike and the bike lock were gone. The steel cord that acted as the post was completely sawed off to disconnect the bike.

Locked the bike outside for the day at 7AM. By 9AM I went out back and it was gone. Railing had been pried off the vertical poles with a crowbar from the looks of it. Bike and lock were then slide off the railing. Bike was visible to the back alley that has a fair amount of metal scavengers.

Bike was in my apt storage lock while I was on vacation out of the country. My roommate discovered it stolen on Monday morning.

I went into a store in the local, a store that I frequent often, to make some purchases. I was in there no longer than about 15mins. I've always parked my bike inside of the store, near the front door unlocked because I'm always only in there a short time. This time I wasn't so lucky because someone must have been watching me while I made purchases at the counter. When I went to exit the store, I saw my bike was gone. I went outside and asked some gentlemen that were standing out there if they saw anyone walk out with it, of course their answers were "no".
