Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was inside a secure area, and stolen with another bike. The other bike that belonged to my roommate has been returned all ready. Things that have changed since the photo: I cut the changed and cut the handlebars shorter, so they fit my hands only, not anything else. I still have the bars pictured at home. I painted the rims black, but the paint was chipping off of them. I added the green chain described above that locked the seat to the frame. The new seat post & clamp were glossy black, so those are similar, but not the ones in the photo. I also added the horn. There was a rear reflector, and a "Mayor Daley's Bike (Authority?) light" on the back. The tires were relatively new gator skin tires, and had been reinforced with some older bike tires, so that they were twice as thick. The Front tire tube is new, and the rear should have a few patches.

This bike had high pressure tires that got constant flats on the Chicago streets/potholes. Literally, the bike shop stopped charging me for labor and it had gotten it's 10th one in three months on my way to a very important meeting regarding an international festival I was assisting. I angrily locked it to the nearest sign and because of the incredibly busy weekend I had ahead of me, didn't have time to retrieve it until today when I found it was gone. I have no idea how it was taken or anything. It's just gone.

I left my brand new bike locked to the bike rack outside of the Lakeview YMCA for just over an hour. It was on the last bike rack to the left right behind the parking meter. I believe someone broke open my lock and stole my new bike with the lock in order to sell it because it's a very nice road bike that could get a lot of money.

The bike was in a parked car(minivan)in a residential parking spot off an alley (where the rear apartments are located). Literally, the car was not even 10 ft. from the door of a garden level apartment. A brick was thrown through the back window of my car and the bike was stolen. They did not forget to take my "gear bag." Well, if nothing else, they sure had nerve. This neighborhood has been VERY popular lately with car break-ins, as I have since been told. The parking spots were also heavily lit, and have motion sensors. Do not leave ANYTHING in ANY car in this neighborhood (even if you think it is hidden). Stolen bike outside an apartment in Old Town, it happened during the World Cup game, rained a bit, so either someone had an opportunity to cut through / pick my lock while I was inside, or I just didn't lock it correctly and someone rode away with a free bike. I just found this site and wanted to add my claim to the postings.

the bike was left locked in front of the house overnight, in the morning it was missing. this is my 2nd bike that was stolen in the last 4 days. First my "Sanwa" was stolen from this safe location (I always assumed, and had no problems in the past). So I bought this bike as a replacement and in 4 nights it was gone too. I know, stupid me for dismissing the first theft. this time I was using a cable with integrated key lock, not a cable combination lock like last time... picture is not of my actual bike, my bike looks same except it has more stickers on the frame and brake cables are black, not white.

Stolen while at zoo with wife and son. They left the child seat and my wife's bike. This happened during the middle of the day on a busy Sunday.

I have 2 bikes stolen in 4 days. This is the first one. The bike was locked in front of my house, exactly how I've been locking it for quite some time since I moved there (no bad incidents in the past). The morning after it was missing. PICTURE: I did not have a good picture of my bike, so I found one online, my bike looks same, but has purple grip-tape handles and a slightly worn seat.

I arrived at this location around 6:45 on Sunday (09-12-10). I was at my friends' place in a high rise, so I wasn't able to view the bike, but I have visited them and locked my bike up there many times before. I left around 10:30 to bike home and my bike was gone. At first I thought I forgot where I parked it, but I very clearly remember where I parked it, as for some reason I had a funny feeling before I left it and I double checked to make sure I had locked it correctly. The bike lock was gone and I didn't see it anywhere in the vicinity so I assume someone either cut it and took it with them or was able to remove the lock and the bike from the bike rack (maybe its a fake rack or for some reason can be lifted from the cement. I have no real idea how it happened.

I locked my bike and my son's bike to the rack in front of the Davis Theater prior to a 7:00 pm movie - just 2 feet from an outdoor table at La Bocca della Verita Restaurant. When we got out of the movie at 9:00 pm, my bike was gone. The lock had been cut. Fortunately, they did not take my son's BMX bike.

The bike was leaning against a tree by the side door of the apartment bldg. The area is the side patio of the apartment bldg, which is fenced in. I was on the phone when I was outside and went inside not remembering that I had not locked up the bike. I remembered when I woke up in the morning and ran outside to find that the bike had been stolen.

I am so sad. :( It was so brand new it wasn't even paid for all the way yet.

came to my back door to see if roommate needed help coming in...saw bike missing, looked down below, hispanic male in 20's red sweatshirt, backpack riding off with my bike. down the alley between ashland and bosworth just north of albion. ran to get my phone and then down after him, called 911, went back in house to get car keys and follow but...lost im. bummer. i loved that bike. i am stunned. (i do usually lock it up! what an idiot i was today!)

Neighbors saw an individual (possibly a woman) enter our backyard through an unlocked gate (which will never be left unlocked again!) Description was of a heavy-set person, average height, wearing a grey sweatshirt and having short, dark, curly hair in a "mullet" style haircut.

We (6 adults and 3 children) went into Lincoln Park Zoo at the Cannon St. entrance about 11 AM. Locked 6 bikes altogether. When we came back at 2:30 this Trek bike was gone along with a Cannondale bike belonging to my son who is filing a separate report. The other four bikes were not taken.

The bike was locked up with a U-lock in front of 540 West Melrose this weekend, and it's a red "Merida" brand road bike. There won't be too many like this in Chicago. The lock is gone, the bike is gone, and the post where it was locked is unharmed. Someone probably made off with it in the middle of the night.

While out of town this weekend, it appears that someone picked the lock to the front of my condo building, entered the hallway where the bike was located and left with the bike thereafter. No neighbors can recall seeing the bike over the weekend and the last I saw the bike was Thursday night around 11pm.

Sometime during the night, someone cut through my Kryptonite lock and stole my bike. I had another smaller u-lock attached to the back wheel and frame, but that was nowhere to be found so, they had to have put it in a car (most likely) or carried it away.
