Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was left in our basement. Only tenants (4 apartments) have access to the basement. Wife noticed the bike missing when doing laundry in the basement this evening. Other items in the basement were left alone, only my bike was taken. This evening when my wife went downstairs, the outside door was ajar and the basement/storage/laundry room door was unlocked. The bike was there this morning, and we are unsure what time specifically it was taken.

People were outside enjoying the evening when the bike was stolen. No one saw or heard anything. The bike was in front of my apartment, inside the fence. The fence was cut and my bike was taken. It was taken between 9:45-11:00pm.

Someone entered the backyard through a gate which happened to be unlocked. Entered the garage and stole 2 adult bikes, one of which was the champagne-colored Specialized Sequoia Elite - 57cm - the other a grey Gary Fischer bike. I don't know exactly when the bikes were stolen, but was between April 23-26, 2007. The Gary Fisher had a distance meter on it, the Sequoia a small bike bag under the seat.

As recorded on surveillance camera: a tall, slender man scaled the back fence & railing of the building, removed the bike from the 2nd floor balcony, tossed the bike over the railing, & rode it away. He completed this in less than 2 minutes, so he has apparently had some experience with it. The fact that the gate is locked & barb-wired, and that the bike location was visible from the office created a false sense of security.

the bike was locked unto another bike with a cable. they cut this in a hurry. naive Minneapolis girl I am. I'm also aware that I reporting this theft way to late but I'm just hoping for a miricle. I have the serial # somewhere if you think it worth a try.

Bike was missing from rack to which it was locked, along with the cable lock. The area, in the Loop, is very busy, with dozens of bikes locked to surrounding racks,and many people on the sidewalks.

Bike was locked to the bike rack in front of the Brown Line Paulina Station at 6:30 am. At 3:30 pm I returned from downtown to find the bike gone, the lock was on the ground by the bike rack. It looks like someone tried to cut the chain but figured some other way of getting it off. I've only had the bike about a month and it's my main source of transportation. Any help is appreciated.

Locked bike across the street from Hi-Tops at 6 PM, went into the Cubs game. Left at 9 PM to find bike and lock missing.

I bought this bike on Saturday April 21st and it was stolen on Monday April 23rd. It was stolen on the DePaul University campus right outside of the McGowan sciences building between 1pm and 6pm. The thief picked/slammed through my Kryptonite U-lock like surgeon and probably destroyed the bike frame in the process then did the dirty work of cutting the cable lock with a bolt cutter. I'm hoping to get some kind of compensation through the Krytonite anti-theft protection offer because the locks were left behind in pieces. Has anyone had luck with getting compensation from Kryptonite in the past?

The bike was locked with the cable loop to a bike rack 30 feet from the entrance of 3616 North Pine Grove Avenue for approximately 24 hours. The cable was looped around the rack bar through the bike frame and rear wheel. I removed the front wheel and the seat. I last observed and looked over the bike and rack at about 11:40pm APRIL 19th. The theft occured sometime between 12am and 8am on APRIL 20th and I believe this was enough time to observe the bike and lock to determine how to cut the cable. Again the front wheel and seat where removed so this had to be carried back to some location and/or vehicle. There are plenty of bikes along this street, but mine was the newest in appearance. The front gear had the chain in 2nd gear and the rear gear had the chain in 5th gear.

At about 7:45am I parked and locked my bike at the St. Clair entrance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, on the first rack just to the right of the revolving door entrance, and right in front of the big windows. I use two cable locks that require a normal flat key to open, one was around the frame and the front wheel and the bike rack, the other was just from the frame to the bike rack bar. I walked a block to Dunkin Donuts to get coffee, on my way back and walking in the front revolving doors of Galter Pavilion I glanced look at the bike randomly and noticed it was gone and proceeded to run around the area looking. That was 10 minutes later, around 7:55 am but no later than 8am. Not one person in the area saw a thing, so the thief must've been watching me park it to begin with. There are lots of nice bikes in the area that were locked must like mine in less obvious spots, but mine is shiny I guess. Right by the front doors and where the cabs stop!!!!

I left my bike inside my apartment building in the hallway on the main floor. I have lived in the building for two years and have never had a problem with people breaking in-the building is secure, or at least I thought it was. I last saw it Sunday evening at 8pm. Monday morning I checked for it around 9am and it was gone.

i locked my bike to one of those street poles that can be unbolted and lifted out of the base. STUPID! but i love love love my bike and want it back so bad. t he photo's a little misleading cause the bike doesn't have a front rack or bar ends anymore... but it's the only pic i have.

Locked my bike up to the fence by my work like I do every day at 10am. Was still there at noon when I went to lunch, but was gone at 6pm when I got off. I spoke to the bank across the street (who own the lot) and they confirmed that neither they or the city had the bike removed. Later a friend spoke to one of the bikers for Potbellys, who said that he saw the bike being pulled off the fence by an "young asian male" and put into the back of a car around 2:30. Lock was either picked, or tapped with freon, as the lock was gone and there was no damage to the fence. I'm pretty sure that my bike had been scouted out for theft, as i generally locked it in the same place, and the thieves pulled up in a car, on a major street, and stole it in seconds.

left my bike locked to a bike rack at the western/milwaukee blue line stop on a tuesday afternoon around 3pm. i went to pick it up on wednesday at 11pm and it was gone.

Bike was locked to an iron fence in front of the school. at major intersection downtown. right next to and el stop. i can only imagine the thief was a pro. how daring

Parked bicycle at 9:30am with cable and pad lock intended to return in an hour but got tied up in the office came out at 5:00pm and the bicycle was gone.

I was in the Merchandise mart for about 15 min and when I came out it was missing. There was a few bike messengers near by acting odd, but they of course had not seen anything.

Someone entered my home and took off with my bike.
