Incident Description:
On 02/28/23 at 5:30pm my two bicycles were stored in the bike room of my apartment building (Everett Hyde Park, 5454 S. Everett Ave) with their wheels locked up as normal. Each bike had a headlight, tail-light, hand-pump, helmet and saddlebag attached to the frame. At 10:47am on 03/01/23 I received an email from our property manager stating “Hello 5454 S Everett Tenants. I am sorry to announce that there was a break in of the bike room early this morning. I am having the bike room door window replaced and the front door latch guard replaced”. When I got home at 5:30pm on 03/01/23, I went to the bike room and found my bikes and equipment stolen.
Our apartment building has a locked lobby/entryway and off of this entryway is the bike room. The landlord implied that the perpetrator broke the latch of the front door, and then broke the window of the bike room door. With the bike room window broken, they could reach through and unlock the door.
