Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was locked through both wheels and frame to city provided bike rack. 2900 N Lincoln in the early afternoon. Was in the shop for no more than 20 minutes and there was another bike locked to the same rack when I returned, albeit with a U lock.

Had locked the bike to a bike rack near Chicago union station at 11.30 am approximately and gone for an hour. Came back and found the bike completely missing. No traces.

The bike was likely the only one stolen out of the bike cage in our enclosed parking garage because it was one of the nicer bikes in very good condition. It was locked through the frame and both wheels so it was unlikely that they rode it out.

Bike was stored on the back porch of a third floor walk-up apartment. Porch area is located in an alley, and is not visible from the main road. Bike was not visible from the alley either. Looked out on porch and bike was gone. Cut cable lock was left behind. Incident likely occurred at night.

Our two bikes were stolen off of our enclosed porch. There is a locked heavy duty gate to get into the shared property, and then a locked door to get into the building (2 apartments). Our space seemed like a trusted area, we have two upstairs neighbors that are serious bike enthusiasts. The locks into the apartment were not broken/damaged. Thief did not take new U-Lock, helmet and bike pump.

Left my bike on my fire escape deck. People keep stuff like grills and chairs on the decks too. I was going to bring it inside, but I forgot it overnight and in the afternoon, I noticed it was gone. The back of the building is locked, and maybe two dozen people have access to it. Only a handful of people would have walked near the bike to see it was unlocked. Nobody says they know what happened.

Stolen from the Bike Room at the Shoreham Apartments: Looks like a big job, other bikes gone too

Cannondale Synapse7 white with red and black decal. Locked to a sign post outside of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, on the east side near the underground parking deck entrance. Locked bike with U-lock through the frame and front tire and cable lock through the back tire to a sign pole. Locked around 8:45am, came out around 6:30 pm to find bike missing with no sign of broken locks.

My bike was locked to the fence inside the gate of my apartment. Someone must have hopped the fence and taken the bike but left the lock.

Left outside of the Playground Theater. I went inside to teach a class about 4pm, and a friend went outside and noticed a cut lock where my bike was at about 7:30pm.

The bike was locked with a cable through the front and back wheel, to the bike post on the street near 500 west madison, on canal right be panda express logo.

Bike lock was cut and bike taken. Bike stolen from 330 North Wabash Avenue in Chicago.

I returned home with my bicycle on Wednesday (12/3) at around 3:45pm. I always leave my bike unlocked in the storage room below my apartment. At this time there were two men installing some insulation around some pipes in this same storage room. They saw me bring the bike in where I left it unlocked (stupidly, now) as they were working. I went down to ride it this evening (12/4, around 5:15pm) and it was gone along with one of my neighbor's bikes. Both of our U-locks were sitting there left behind. I think it's pretty obvious who took them and I will be following up with the management company to figure out who they were.

I rode my bike to the Red Line stop at Lawrence and Clifton (1117 W. Lawrence) and locked my bike to a provided bike rack, using a heavy duty chain (links thicker than my thumb) and heavy lock (I have been using this set for 17 years). I left the bike just before noon, and when I returned just after 4 p.m. the bike was gone. My helmet was also locked with the same chain

ATTEMPTED theft - reporting for sake of statistics Left bike under back porch with rear-wheel O-lock engaged. Heard a noise, saw back gate open. Bike was ditched in alley when thief realized they couldn't ride it away.

Bike had been locked to the fence around the back yard of the house for several days, but was still there about two hours before I found it gone. The fence runs along an alleyway/driveway that faces the drive-in pharmacy of a walgreens, but the bike was on the inside of the fence so they had to have come into the yard through the side gate, which has no lock.

Bike stolen near Grand and McClurg. I assume lock was cut. No trace of lock or bike remaining. Bike was stolen in broad daylight on a Sunday morning, with plenty of people in the street.

Bike was kept in a private garage next to car. Thief would have had to sneak into building or be let in and granted access to basement parking garage.
