Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

My husband saw motion in the back yard; a moment later we realized the garage lights were on. We went out to look and the garage was open. (We'd gotten home a hour before and both remembered closing the garage.) We think someone got into the garage from the back yard, opened the garage door, and rode off on my bike.

Came back from ride at 7p Sunday and put bike in my semi-private garage. (only share with one other unit). Came out at 8a to go to work and bike and black Giro helmet was gone. Garage closed. Nothing else taken including other bike, golf clubs, etc. Have no idea how someone got in and took bike. Maybe neighbor came home late and left door open and closed later. Maybe he took it. Don't know?

Other things were stolen from my garage, as well as my neighbors house, including 6 of his bikes. Based on how everything looked and the way they went about it, they looked like professionals.

Mine and my boyfriend's beach cruisers were chained and locked to a wooden beam that's part of a staircase in our fenced back yard. Boyfriend rode his bike to/from work on Monday and both bikes were gone Tuesday morning when he went to leave for work. I'm guessing someone (more than one) hopped the fence, cut the lock and took off. The only reason I thought to post this is because we have beach cruisers in Chicago (we just moved here), which aren't that common.

Thief gained entry to my car and used the garage door opener to access the garage. Only thing taken was my bike, which was hung from the ceiling above my wife's SUV. Very difficult to access in that position, but they got it out without much else being disturbed in the garage. Offender kept the garage door opener, causing me to have to reprogram the mechanism to avoid the same thing happening again.

Had locked it up on the north side of the CDW building (120 S. Riverside) in front of Boston Blackies. There is a bike rack there and mine was close to the center of all of them. Distinctly remember locking through both wheels and frame to large metal bike rack with an ecordian style cable lock with a master lock. Came outside after work and it was gone.

I had my bike for 3 days; I bought it on Tuesday and it was gone on Friday. I came to Sports Authority on Clark street to buy a sleeping bag as I was planning on camping the next day. I left my bike on the bike rack right in front of the store and locked it with a U-Lock. It was 5:30 p.m. - lots of light, many people passing by and getting in and out of the store all the time. After 20 minutes, I got out of the store and did not see my bike any more. There was another girl that arrived with me at the same time, left the bike unlocked and went in to the store; I was very surprised to see her leaving her bike not locked. However, her bike was not stolen but mine was.. Probably, because my bike was brand new. Another interesting thing is that I was very surprised that such a big store did not have any cameras that will record the front entrance and main parking of the store. I did not have a chance to take a picture of my bike so I uploaded picture of the bike I found online. I did file a police report and I do have a serial number, I just don't have this info with me right now; I will provide it to you as soon as I get home tonight.

My bike was locked up to the bike rack outside the building when I came out the bike was gone along with the lock. I believe the bike lock was cut and the bike was stolen.

A video was taken of the thief. He came onto the side of the building bike area with his bike, cut the lock and left with his bike. Then returned on foot 10 minutes later and rode away on mine.

Someone hopped my fence and broke into my basement they must have been looking for this bike because I have 3 others and this was the only one taken. I hand picked all the parts on this bike and assembled it myself, it is very dear to me.

Bike was locked through the main frame using a newer u-lock w/flat key to a rung on the back porch. The rung was pried off of the railing on the back porch and the bike was subsequently stolen.

I usually bring my bike inside, but we were having some guests over so I locked my baby up outside for the night so my apartment wouldn't be to crowded. I locked it up with a U lock and a steel wire, lock was cut and bike was most likely lifted up over my fence and taken away. Based on the cut of the lock it was probably done with a small electric saw. There was only a small piece of the lock left at the scene.

I opened my garage door to take my bike out, then went back through the garage to close the door and go out the front door. I do this every day, and the process takes 15 seconds. This time someone took my bike during those 15 seconds. They must have been watching me. They also left a grocery bag full of crappy plastic dishes in its place, leading me to believe that it was a homeless individual who had just found the plates in a dumpster, but then ditched the plates and took my bike when the opportunity arose. I ran in all directions but didn't see anyone. This mountain bike is 10 years old and has 14,000 miles on it. It's not worth anything, but it was my baby. I am heartbroken today.

Bike was locked in the garage of my building. Someone made it into my building, cut the cable lock, and stole the bike along with several of my neighbors bikes.

I locked it to an iron fence with 2 newer U locks w/flat keys. Through the back wheel to frame and then through frame, front week and fence. Someone cut the iron fence and took it.

My bike was taken out of the basement of the house I rent an apartment in while I was at work on Memorial Day. It was still in pieces from moving from out-of-state and wasn't locked up. I think it rather unlikely that a stranger walked in and took it, it was probably someone in one of the other 3 apartments in the house. I called all the bike shops in McHenry county to keep an eye out for it but it's very possible that the thief took it into Chicago to sell. My bike is fairly unique looking (see the description) and should be easy to identify if it's in it's original condition. I would have posted on here sooner, but just learned of the site. The color is darker than in the Mountain Bike Magazine clipping I uploaded.

Between noon and 3:30p.m., while I was at the Pride parade, my bike was stolen. This happened less than 24 hours after my girlfriend's bike was stolen from a nearby tree. Both were locked securely just east of Southport on Waveland, on the north side of the street.

Sometime between 11p.m. on 6/23 and 9 a.m. on 6/24, a gray Marin hybrid bike was stolen. It was locked to a tree on Waveland, just east of Southport. The next day, during the Pride parade, between noon and 3:30p.m., my boyfriend's Trek bike was also stolen from a street sign right near the tree where mine was.
