Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Someone associated with the general contractors doing work on our building entered the basement through an open door left that way by the contractors and walked out with the bike. I believe the bike was sold on Craigslist one day later for $500 cash as a 'Colnago C69'

Bike was locked to itself through the front wheel in the back of my car with a jacket and backpack thrown over it (all windows were privacy glass) parked less than a block from my building at pulaski and altgeld. I went to my car to take my bike to work and found my rear window bashed in and my bike gone, the thief left everything untouched including the back pack and five dollar in plain sight.

The bike was in my garage, which was unknowingly left open by another tenant. The bike is not locked as the garage is an enclosed garage with keys and garage openers only held by two parties. I believe someone walked by, saw the open garage, and simply carried the bike over the cars and out the open garage.

My bike was locked in front of a school building at DePaul University. I had planned on riding it home that night, but, after working at in the library until almost 2am, I decided to cab it home and pick up my bike in the morning. The bike must have been stolen while I was either at the library (Oct. 29-30 from 8pm-1:30am) or while I was home over night (Oct 30 2am-10am). I am assuming the thief cut through the lock and took it with him.

The bike was in my backyard which is surrounded by a huge locked and almost completely secluded fenced off area. It looks like someone was biking down the alley, dropped their bike to creep around, and then hopped the fence and broke out of the locked in area with it. They left their bike in my neighbors yard I think.

Bike was propped up against the back of my building, unlocked. I intended to run upstairs to get the basement key and got sidetracked...when it occurred to me a few hours later that I'd forgotten to bring the bike indoors, the bike and my Nutcase helmet (which was hanging from the handlebars) was gone. My bad! The only photo I have of the bike is from the Critical Mass Underwear Ride this past summer...

Bike lock certainly cut and is missing

My children and I were at Douglas Park and we rode our bikes there. We just parked our bikes by the playground equipment and the kids were playing on the playground. Someone snuck up when I was not looking and took my bike.

I was coming back from a run and I saw a man riding on my bike just a block from my house. He was a black man wearing a black leather jacket, black skull cap.

It was stored in a locked back porch. The lock to the door seems to have been left open by another resident in the building.

Hey.. My brother just had his bike stolen today while he was in class at uic. He just bought it. Had a u-lock. It is a 2014 specialized allez. Black. Left pedal is slightly cracked and there's a couple scratches.

Bike was parked at the bottom of the loading dock in the shop where I working alone on a small project, I'd taken it out of the uhaul truck it had been tranported in to unload materials and leaned it against the dock wall. I then proceeded to work on my project, not perceiving the bike to be in any immediate danger since it was inside the shop. However I kept the garage door open because the day was nice, but because I was working on a personal I stayed a little later and did not think to close the door as it grew dark. The thief saw the unlocked bike at the bottom of the dock and seized his opportunity to take it. Probably while I was running a table saw. He also stole a set of husky string cage lights brand new in the box out of the truck, which he saw after getting to the bike at the end of the dock.

My bike was left in the alley briefly and was gone

There are several bikes left in the bike storage of our 8 unit building. The building requires a key to enter, or to be buzzed in through the intercom system. When I found my bike, there was a new bike that I had never seen stored in the storage area in the last 3 months. I wonder if a visitor rode this bike over and decided they liked mine better and left with mine. Or perhaps while the mail carrier had the door open, someone entered the building and took a bike, since the mail carrier won't know who lives here and who doesn't. I hadn't ridden in about a week since it's been colder outside, but because it was warm today, I wanted to go for a ride and noticed my bike missing. The police report number is through Evanston.

Criminal cut through Kryptonite U-Lock with a high powered electric hand held saw and rode off.

I believe that the theft happened between 4am - 6am as the free paper that is delivered on Tuesday mornings at approximately 4:45am was placed perfectly at the foot of my door (which does not happen as the paper is thrown from street level). It appears as if the lock was cut, as I found part of it down the block and around the corner from where I live.

Bike was locked to bike rack outside of TBH Residence hall at the corner of Halsted and Roosevelt Road on UIC campus. Bike was likely targeted as it has been there on multiple occasions. U - Lock that was around the rack, front wheel and frame was cut using some sort of bolt cutters. Multiple attempts were made to break the lock free suggesting it was a struggle at first. Lock was left at scene, Police report was filed at 9:30 am on October 23, 2014.

I think that someone used a grinder to cut my lock, there is evidence on the fence itself that supports this theory.

Locked to tree at 7pm. Found helmet, lock, and bike all missing at 11:15pm. Tree is large enough that bike couldn't be removed over the top. The lock was poor quality, and was likely defeated through force or decoding.
