Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I was not home when this occurred, but got home shortly after the incident. My three roommates were all in my kitchen on the first floor which views directly into our backyard and onto our wooden deck. At approximately 11am on 3/18/21 they saw a man wearing all black with a hood up walk up the steps to our deck, grab my bike, and walk down towards the gate. By the time they realized this man had grabbed my bike, they opened our back door and yelled at him, getting only a muttered respsonse back, before he opened the back gate and quickly rode off down the alley. They are unsure how he got onto our deck because our entire yard is fenced in with a tall wooden fence and locked gates in the front and back. We believe he must have climbed over our or our neighbors fence to get into our yard before snatching my bike. My roomates described him as a shorter male with a hooded puffy jacket, and black sweatpants with three orange stripes going down the side, like adidas track pants.

Bike was taken from inside a locked first-floor apartment. Very little else was stolen (shoes only, not my computer). The lock had been attached to the bike (not locked), but was taken off and left behind.

Found bike lock on floor and bike was stolen. Also found it on facebook market place marked as sold.

Early Sunday morning the “no parking sign” that my bike was locked to was pulled from the ground and the bike and lock were removed from the pole they were locked to. I have video footage of the incident and photo evidence of the removed sign. It occurred at Giddings and Leavitt.

Bike was in a closed garage. The garage was accidentally left open for an hour. I noticed that the Bike was missing the next day.

LAZ/Vue53/target parking garage on 53rd street. There's a bike lock-up cage inside the parking garage, the door to it was cut off and mine and several other bikes were stolen.

Bike kept under apartment steps, not visible from street and within gates. Taken in the night.

I had left my bike in my storage room for the last 3 days. Went to use it this morning and it is gone without a trace. Date and time of theft is unknown but had to happen between March 10 at noon and March 13 at 10am.

The service door, which opens to my enclosed backyard, was open. I had been in and out of the garage earlier. today. At 1:58 PM, I was called by my neighbor Anne, who had been contacted by her neighbor Susie (both at 935 W Montana). Susie had seen someone throw a bicycle over the fence toward 939 W Montana. She called 911. Her description is a young black male, "taller than" me, which means over 5' 9". He wore a hoodie and jeans. Other things in the garage were disturbed. I haven't determined if anything else is missing but there is nothing obvious. I don't know how he entered my fenced and gated yard, or knew of the open door. The main garage door was closed.

I went to work in the afternoon at 150 N Riverside Plaza (across from the Boeing building). About 45 mins after I went up to the office, a white mal 5'9 height apparently went to my bike, took out a spray or other freezing agent from a black bag, and used a hammer to break the lock. He then put the broken lock in his bag and rode eastwards across the Randolph lock. Bike recovered by Downers Grove Police Department and returned to owner March 2021.

Time and date are guesses at this point, since I wasn't checking on it every day. Hadn't been ridden since fall.

Bike stolen from the locked storage area in the back stairwell. There are two heavy duty security doors, so I can only think that one of them didn't close properly or that someone was watching me come home. Another bike of mine was also stolen (Bianchi road bike, size 57, rim brake in light green with Shimano 105 components, white handlebar tape). The surly was purchased less than a year ago from Comrade Cycles, and has been kept in this same secure location since then with no incident. I will call them tomorrow to figure out the serial number.

My bike was stolen out of my locked garage last night. I found the garage side door open this morning and my bike missing.

This was stolen along with another bike from our building. 8 other bikes were not locked either and they are all still there.

Bike was locked in apt bike storage since November. Noticed the lock was cut today and bike was missing along with a few other bikes. Reported to apartment managers.

The bike was stolen from within the confines of an 8 unit Condo building in Uptown, with fences and locked gates at the front and back. The U-lock went through the front wheel to the frame and a cable was attached to the U-lock and a bike rack. The cable was cut.

I lock my bike up on this rack daily while I am at work. There are other bikes locked to the same rack constantly so I thought it was a safe place. When I came outside last night, the bike was gone and my lock was cut and left on the ground.

The bike was stolen sometime during the school day. The person would have needed to get into the fenced in playground area and then stolen the bike. The lock was cut and left at the scene. There was a pretty constant stream of classes playing outside during the day so there were only small windows of time that it could have been stolen.

The bike was locked in a cage. Someone cut the lock and stole the bike.
