Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was stolen because it is an eye candy and it did not have the best locking devise. It was parked right in the front of the security booth at John H Stroger Hosital parking garage. I came in to work my shift at 7:30 am and when I got off from work at 5pm the bike was gone. I will try to find out if there are security cameras that could potentially reveal the event.

I was out riding around ,came back home to use the bathroom ,left bike outside in my yard it was around 9:30 pm,after about 10 min came out bike was gone...

Bike was stolen together with a Trek 700 Multitrack (see other report). The two bikes were locked together in the alley behind my condo, and left there for no more than 5 minutes.

Someone walked into the building where I worked because a construction company had propped the door open with a phone book, walked into an open office, went all the way to the back, right next to an office people were working in, grabbed the bike and ran with it. He was witnessed running away with the bike but got away.

Bike was locked to an interior fence in a locked yard. Apparently our neighbors left their gate open, which allowed access to the shared fence to which my bike was locked. The fence post was cut with a saw or bolt cutters, and the bike was lifted out, presumably with the cable lock intact.

My friend and I rode bikes to the rock-n-roll race in grant park. I always ride to big races and lock my bike in front at the Art Institute of Chicago. There are usually several other people who do the same, however this time when I returned there was only one bike there when I returned. I think someone took all the bikes in this area at once. I left the bike at 5:30am and locked properly and when I returned at 11am it was gone. I will never lock my bike there again.

Locked to a street sign and went into work -- when I got out at 3pm, the bike was gone. Nothing unique about it. Just gone.

The bike was parked directly in front of Moody Church and could have only been stolen in broad daylight. There were no other bikes locked to this rack as far as I know, and the lock would have needed a cable cutter to be broken.

The bike was locked across the street from the California Blue Line stop in Logan Square. I left it locked up for the day while I took the train. When I returned that night, the lock was cut and the bike was missing. The other bike that I was locked up with on the same lock was still there.

Some asshole cut the cable lock with cable cutters and took off with it.

Bike locked up outside of my apartment. Never had any trouble with it there. Very quiet street. Saw it at 1:30 in the morning, gone by 2 in the afternoon. No remnants of the bike to be found. Another bike is locked up within five feet of it, but still there. Photograph included is a stock photo.

Police have man on video camera grabbing my bike at the Jewel! Literally walked pasted this person trying to hide his face as he walks out the in door, however camera shows clear picture of him, looks like Joe Walsh from Eagles, well dressed but is clearly seen riding off on my bike, please call police immediately if you see him on bike as described. Bike was stolen off locked back porch on the 3rd floor of my apartment building. Bike itself was not locked. A black rack has been installed on the bike since the photo was taken. The bike is brand new, only a month old. My apartment is in Lakeview, Greenview and Grace.

Bike was stolen from my garage. They kicked open the side door to the garage which was locked with a deadbolt. Bike was stolen with u-lock, cable and helmet (giro, yellow and black, live strong). Bike has a rear hitch for a trailer and an orange crate on the back with two reflectors.

Returned to friend's home last night where we fell asleep. We had placed our bikes in the garage and locked the garage. Unfortunately, I was tired and did not lock my bike inside the garage as I normally would have. When I awoke this morning to ride home, the side entry door to the garage was wide open and my bike was gone.

We were in Peggy Notebeart Museum with our children. We know what happened b/c my husband actually happened to be looking out the upstairs window when he saw two males (his guess was they were Hispanic men, shorter hair cuts between 18-30 years old) running with bikes that looked like ours. He ran out of the building and found that it was our bikes and that they were gone--they cut through the lock, left nothing. The bike next to ours was missing parts as well.

Apparently a regular occurrence at the Metra station. My better lock was lost, and I was using a cheaper cable lock. The South side of the tracks has a commuter bicycle parking area along a throughway with a park and a church where plenty of folks park bicycles using the racks. On any day, there are 8+ bicycles parked there on that side. The ticketing station is on the opposite side of the tracks. No security at the location; the lockers are all leased already. No evidence of the theft was left. However, I parked at 7:30a and did not return until 5:40p so I do not know the exact time of theft nor if the cable was cut and later cleaned up as trash.

Bike was parked arm's length behind a bench that my grandparents were sitting at. Caucasian male, around 5'4" got on the bike and took off.
