Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike in photo is of the model and color of my bike, not my actual bike; my bike does not have fenders and it had blue handle grips. I usually leave my bike in a covered stairwell on my 3rd floor apartment, you cannot really see where it is looking at our apartment. My roommate's bike was also stolen at the same time, a silver Trek 3800. As night hit, my third roommate returned home and noticed our bikes were gone.

I was out of town for a few days, and when I returned, my bike had been stolen from our third floor deck along with the lock.

Left bike locked to a designated bike rack and another, older bike through both frames and front wheels. When I finished locking the bikes together, I stood up and a guy holding an iPhone asked me to take a picture of him. It was a little shady because there was no reason for this guy, all alone, to want a picture of himself holding some flyers on his iphone. So I am thinking this may be a scheme in which he takes a photo of himself in the location of the bikes and then sends it to others who come and cut the lock/take the bike/etc. He may have even taken a photo of me locking the bikes so that the thief would know what I look like and what the bike and lock looked like. Watch out for this scenario! Don't take someone's photo for them if you are walking away from your property--be it a bike, your apartment, your parked car, etc. If you get asked, you might as well get a picture of them with your phone too! Send it to the cops.

I locked my bike to a rack on the sidewalk in front of the bar 6 Degrees around 12:00 am August 13, 2010. I returned 6 hours later (around 6:00 am) to retrieve it, and it was missing. My helmet and lock were left there unharmed.

Bike was on 3rd story porch, inside locked gate and locked parking area. (Still should have locked it.)

Bike was unlocked but stolen from locked garage. I believe thief jumped our back fence, broke in through side door of garage and then lifted bike with help of an accomplice in the alley over the back gate as the garage has a key pad and was not open when I returned. All gates in backyard were still locked as well.

I had it locked to a tree at Millenium. It was at the end of Washington, in plain site of people eating at the ice rink. Someone might have blocked this sight while another clipped the coil? Millenium needs a better bike rack system! One with free tickets and enclosed

I saw how the theft occurred because the security guard at Target let me watch the security footage. The offender is a white male, roughly 140 pounds, with nearly shoulder length brown hair. He was wearing a red football jersey with white numbers, either 10 or 42 (I cannot remember which), and brown khaki shorts. He carried with him a back pack which had in it a circular saw that he used to cut my bike lock. He had with him a lookout, and this person stood on the corner and watched for cops while he stole my bike. He walked up to my bike at about 9:50 and it took him roughly 4-5 minutes to cut the lock. He rode south down Broadway on my bike. I have seen him before, and even saw him cut the lock off another bike using a circular saw. He will cut a lock in front of lots of people, and the Target security guard says he has done this multiple times before.

After riding my bike, around 6pm locked it to street sign with a U-lock. In the morning when I looked, sign had been cut from the bottom and placed on the sidewalk. bike was taken with locks intact.

Locked bike at intersection left it for 30 minutes when i returned it was gone and they left their junk bike in its place unlocked.

Kryptonite Cable Lock was cut

My bike was locked to the deck support for our three story deck (12x12 wooden support) it was locating inside of our locking 8ft tall fence and locked to the support, the 3/4" thick cable lock was defeated and taken with the bike. No other things were stolen, another bike was sitting next to it, untouched. This should be a unique bike in that it has the frame for an offroad bike with road tires on it, the Marin Alpine Trail comes standard with wide off-road tires. Scumbag thief must have used garbage cans in the alley to jump the back gate.

Left my bike locked to a metal fence outside my apartment around 9pm. It was locked with a Masterlock U-lock. Came home at 1am and it was gone. Both tires and the seat are fixed and cannot be removed without the key that I have. There is a black basket on the front of the bike that is locked to the basket-holder with a Bell pad-lock. There is a City of Chicago sticker attached to a part of the frame with the city flag on it. This is my main form of transportation to and from work. I had previously registered this bike with the city and I have filed a police report. Please, please bring back my bike!

THE ONE AND ONLY TIME I FORGOT MY KRYPTONITE MINI LOCK, I LOCKED IT IN A RACK TOGETHER WITH MY FRIEND'S BIKE USING HER USELESS CABLE LOCK. SUNDAY EVENING, BROAD DAYLIGHT, BUSY STREET, LOTS OF BIKES IN THE RACK.WITHIN 90 MINUTES THEY CUT CABLE, TOOK MY BIKE, THE BUSTED LOCK AND BOTH HELMETS AND LEFT MY FRIEND'S 10 SPEED BIKE BEHIND TO STEAL LATER. COULDN'T BE SEEN WALKING TWO WOMENS BIKES & HELMETS DOWN THE STREET--THAT WOULD CALL ATTENTION.

the bike was inside my friends apartment, but right outside his door. i am friends with everyone in his building so assumed it would be fine...the bottom door may have been left open and some one off the street may have come up stair and jacked it.

My bike was locked to the fence behind our automated gated parking area. The gate must have somehow been left open and my lock cut.

I think the door to the apartment building was open, and someone snuck out with the U-locked bike.

My bike was locked to a bike rack just outside Comer Children's Hospital, the area is pretty well traveled, but there are no security cameras on the bike rack area. It was there when my husband left work at 4:30pm and when I went to get my bike at 7:30pm, it was gone with no evidence of my lock anywhere. I believe someone stole it during a thunderstorm, when no one else was outside on the street.

My bike was put away in the basement of my apartment building which is locked so only tenants and maintenance people can enter at about 6:30pm 8/1/10. Sometime between then and 8/6/10 my bike was stolen along with my roommates bike and several others from our basement.

bike was locked with a U-lock to a chainlink fence inside my building's front stairs area. theif cut the chainlink and removed the bike with the lock.
