Bike was locked outside of Logan Square Blue Line stop to the bike rack facing Milwaukee/Kedzie. A group of 6 men were surrounding the area and one left a note under the cut lock claiming to know the location of the stolen bike including his phone number and tried to persuade me to follow him to Kedzie and Albany. He described my bike perfectly as he was trying to get me to follow him, noting that the handle bar grips were missing (recently stolen) as well as the color details, claiming that he sees me and my bike every day. Left the scene with note an broken lock, police report filed.

The bike is relatively new, only a few months old as of July 2015. It is a light blue color with silver argyle-patterned designs on the seat tube and down tube. It is a single-speed bike with a rear hub coaster brake and an otherwise minimalist design. There are no accessories on the bike except for a rear reflector on the seat post and mounts for a headlight and rear light on the handlebars and seat tube.

The bike was locked to a wooden stairway support pillar (very sturdy, concrete-mounted into the ground) in the parking area behind my apartment building and accessible from the alleyway. I left town for two weeks. Upon returning, the bike and the combination cable lock, which had been locking the bike's frame to the wooden support pillar, were both gone without a trace.

I hit the train tracks weird at Cermak and Loomis and fell reallly hard. Someone crossed the street to help me up. I was pretty jarred, so I was sitting on the ground trying to catch my breath. He checked to see if I was okay, asked for money, and then rode away with my bike. He is a white male in his late 30s early 40s. Probably 5'7"-5'11" 150-180 pounds.

The bike was missing the seat, and has red markings on the white frame. Used condition, but still ran well. Only worked in one gear, and some issues with the chain. I bought it used from Working Bikes so don't know all the info offhand. I'm 5'3'' and it was a perfect fit for me, so a shorter bike. Also, had U-lock and cable on it at the time it was stolen. The bike look pretty similar to the photo, which I found online. The main difference is that there is some purple in mine, but the main frame is pretty similar.

Very old bike, just two gear settings on each side and they are changed by lifting or pushing a small lever on each side of the bike. The chain is very squeaky, the right brake is fairly worn so it isn't as effective as the left one, and the front tire is slightly bent (you can notice the curvature when you start pedaling). It has a white Eastern Illinois Communal Biking sticker on the frame, as well as a Northern Illinois Bike registry sticker on the frame somewhere, but the EIU one is far more prevalent.

The front desk security had stepped away from their desk to open a back door, and when he came back noticed it was gone and called me because he sees me riding in everyday. The first floor of the building is all open windows, and I always lock it where it is visible for the front desk to see.
