Went to the zoo with my family, beautiful day, practice day for air show. All 4 of us rode our bikes. We locked them to bike racks 30 yards from main entry. My bike was locked through the frame and rear wheel to my daughters Trek bike. I made the mistake of looping cable through both bikes and rack, but not using my U lock to attach to frame. Cable was looped to bike rack. So thief only had to cut the cable and he got 2 brand new bikes. There were crowds of people and police everywhere.

It was stolen along with the red Giant road bike and two kids bikes - a Specialized HotRock 20 in and a Torker Appaloosa 20 in.

Because of its age the frame is rusty but you can see some of the white and blue detailing on the frame and front fender. It is missing the rear fender but has the flat metal rack on the back. It is missing the headlight and the chain guard. Wheels are white with a stripe running around the rim on either side of the spokes. Front tire has yellow side walls and the back tire is all black.

Bike was in a locked back walkway behind a condo building. Barbed wire, Razor wire and very pointing heavy iron rods are suppose to keep bad people out. Only residence of the building have access with a key. Building toward the north has a view of where bike was but no one from the street or driveway would be able to see that there was a bike in the area. The bike was there at 11:00 pm Thursday 8/16 when taking dog out for walk and was missing in morning at 7:00 am when taking dog for a walk again in the morning.

Headed over to FFC East Lakeview to get a quick workout in after coming from the bike shop. I locked my bike up outside the front entrance at FFC East Lakeview around 4:30pm on 8/16/2012. The lock cable went through both wheels, the bike rack and frame. Finished workout and came outside bike was no longer there. Lock was taken as well. Bike had a few scratches on the top of the aero bars, with another scratch (chipped paint) on the right side of the frame middle bar. The police have been notified. Most visibly distinctive feature is that the handlebars and seat mount pipe are shiny silver rather than black like most mountain bikes. Mounted front and rear flashes that can be removed with an allen wrench .

Locked bike in front of open business with heavy foot traffic at approximately 10 pm. Locked bike and husband's bike with one lock to the street sign. Went to go see a movie at AMC Theater. When we walked back to the bikes the lock was cut and left on the ground and my bike was missing (was locked on the outside). Husband's was left behind. We waited several minutes to see if someone was coming back for his bike too. Nobody suspicious really showed and workers at the Grand Lux that were parked right beside the bikes did not notice anything unusual.

Not sure what happened. I locked my bike up when it was raining. It rained for a few days so I kept being unable to go get it. I came back when the rain stopped and there was no trace that my bike had been where I locked it.

Incident Description: 
My bike was locked up overnight outside of my job. It was here when I left last night at 6:30pm and gone when I got back at 10:30 am this morning. The lock was cut clean thru and left on the ground. My bike is older, covered in electric tape and short.
