Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I was keeping my bike in the secured bike storage room of my apartment complex. I also had a cable lock on it. I went to check on my bike and the cable was cut and my bike was gone.

I walked outside my dorm one afternoon and my bike was gone.

The bike was in my garage and a family member left the garage door (facing alley) open from around 2:00 pm until discovered at around 4:00pm. The bike was visible and not chained. It more or less had a 'take me' sign on it. I know we are idiots. I knew the bike should not have been there in the first place. It is a small beautiful brand new red bike that anyone would be happy have. Including a metal collector for the contents of his truck. Nothing else was stolen-no skis, nothing.

Friend had left outside of his building after lying of the bike's whereabouts. Long story but it should have never been on his front steps. The bike value is not very high but it was a bike I took care of the last ten years and would like to see it back. Call me anytime. The handlebars are very distinct and easy to spot. Not to mention the kickstand is uncommon.

I was swimming at the Pool. Bike locked up at rack outside. Came out and it was gone. Middle of the day.

I have class in a graduate program at the Merchandise Mart. I last saw my bike at 1:30 pm and when I left the building at 6:15 pm it was gone. The thief had mockingly left the link he had sawed through lying right at the scene. This is the important part: the bike lock is THE toughest heaviest bike chain and lock system commercially available. It's designed for MOPEDS. The thief had to cut it with a hacksaw, in broad daylight or at sunset or just after, for I suspect the better part of TEN minutes outside the largest office building in north america (barring the pentagon). It is NOT possible that no one saw this. Shame on the cowardly, selfish bystanders for letting this happen.

Locked bike in the basement storage area of my apartment building, which has a key entry, deadbolt lock after my last ride in early December. I went down on Saturday to put some other items in storage and saw that the bike and the lock were gone.

It was pretty late, and I was on a quiet residential street. I was visiting friends and had forgotten to bring my lock. I took the bike inside the courtyard and leant it against the fence amongst some other bikes that were locked up there, figuring someone would have to be looking pretty carefully to notice it. I guess they were...

The thief dismantled the headset and loosened the front wheel. They also cut the rear brake cable and may have cut the front brake cable as well. Everything else was left on the bike, which was U-locked to a pole. They left the part of the headset attached to the frame but took the fork, spacers, stem, handlebars, brake levers, and front brake. I assume that whoever stole the headset may have stolen it for personal use, as they left the rear wheel which had flip flop hub, and which was not locked. They also left the seat and post, which they would have had the tools to take it off, if they had wanted to.

Went into REI it was Dark and Rainy. I had allot on my mind and wasn't feeling vey good. I while i was looking around I realized my u-lock was still in my back pocket,hence I forgot to lock it I ran out of the store and went to the pole where I left my bike and it was gone. asked looked around the area on foot for a while and asked around to no avail. Came back later with my friends bike and looked more also to no avail.

The bike was locked to a couple others in the lobby of my apartment building. I last saw the bike around midnight on January 17th when I left to walk my two dogs. When I woke up to walk to my two dogs in the morning, around 10am, I noticed the bike lock was clipped and my bike was missing. My bike was the only bike missing. I feel the thief was able to enter my lobby because in the winter the door doesn't latch shut all of the time. The lock and cable was left at the scene of the crime.

I locked my bike to a sign post and went to see a movie around 7pm. After the movie I went to a bar. When I came back around midnight, the sign post was lying on the ground out of its base with the sign's bolt lying next to the base. I saw no sign of a tool being used so the bolt must have been out when I locked up the bike or stripped so that it was easily removed. I assume that the thieves took the bike with the newer u-lock with flat key still attached.

Please be on the lookout for this bike. It is tiny and my only means of transportation.

Keep the bike locked to the ceiling of my garage. Not sure how the thief stole it. There was a heavy cable through the frame locked with a combo pad lock. Encourage other bike owners to not use combination pad locks.

The thief somehow broke through the pipe on my porch that my bike was secured to, ripping one end of the pipe out of the side of the building. This was a morning that snowed, and there were no footprints around the bike, so it must have occurred after my roommate came home at 1:00 am and when it began to snow, sometime later in the morning.

The bike was left locked to a street sign on a busy residential street overnight. It was missing with the lock in the morning.

The bike was secured inside a locked steel wire mesh storage cage in the basement of 770 Lofts Condos, 770 W. Gladys Ave., Chicago, IL. The thief cut the lock hasp on the door, not the pad lock securing it, and removed the bike. The theft took place between 11/2/2010 and 12/28/2010.

The bike is very unique. I think someone probably stole it very early in the morning. It was a Saturday night on a college campus, so people are walking around pretty late. Please let me know if you see/find it.

I went to work without my house (and bike) keys as there were people at home, so I could not use the U-lock. I took a silly risk with the combo cable lock only and paid the price. New bike now goes indoors at work has two U-locks when elsewhere.
