Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was one of three bikes stolen (others include women's blue schwinn roadbike with orange tape and a newer men's brown schwinn) from the locked garage. The overhead door was likely pried open. The perps also stole some power tools (sander, drill, and jigsaw). We think they must have had a truck to get away with all the stuff without being noticed and wouldn't be surprised if it was someone in the neighborhood. There is no reason for someone to target our place over any of the others on the block unless they had already seen what we had inside it (which was basically everything they took).

i forgot my bike outside, in my driveway and it was stolen

I locked the bike to a City of Chicago lighting box (black painted and about 6 ft tall, couple feet wide at the top) around 7pm. came back down from a friends apartment and it was gone. no sign of the bike or the lock.

Stolen from an unlocked garage in broad daylight. Other neighbors lost more, including iPods and cash from gym bags, which were also taken. We speculate my bike became the getaway vehicle, so someone probably saw the thief peddling away with at least one gym bag, which would have appeared odd in our suburban neighborhood.

My lock was old and probably needed to be replaced. I'm not sure exactly how it was defeated.

Seems bike was traded off with another Raleigh left in alley. Conveniently enough a junk man came by a couple hours later and picked that one up. Had at least two others in the back of truck. I am not buying that all these bikes were just thrown out.

The bike was stored in a locked bike storage room in Park Place Tower. I last rode the bike on August 8, 2011, and noticed it missing on September 4, 2011. The bike was taken, along with the U-lock, with no trace of any cutting or removing of cables/locks/tires/etc. Any help in locating this bike (which was just purchased 3 months ago) is greatly appreciated!

I locked my bike in front of Filter at 7 pm. I used a cable through my back wheel and attached it to the u-lock, which was through the front wheel and frame, and locked to the bike rack. After Filter closed at 9 pm I went in a friend's car to get dinner elsewhere. When I returned the bike was gone and the lock was left, cut.

somebody must have jumped the fence in my yard and taken int from our balcony. i was at work at the time, it was midday.

My bike was on the third floor of a locked porch in a locked yard for about 5 hours only access is through a stairway that leads to a the locked door. Must have climbed the railing from the stairs to access the porch. from talking to neighbors their were people moving out and in in the near area.

Bike was locked outside of a DePaul university residence hall. Two bikes were chained together and to a bike rack, through both of the frames and front wheels. The lock was cut and the second bike was moved a few feet away and the lock was put back around it. The other bike was taken.

My boyfriend rode the bike and locked it to the bike racks almost directly in front of the Irving Park Blue line station around noon on August 26th. When he came back from work around 9:00 that same day, the bike was missing along with lock. There was no employee at the station at the time he arrived and he couldn't locate anyone to talk to for about ten minutes at which point he decided to leave. The bicycle seat had been taken with him at the time of lock-up and I currently have possession of it. It is the original bike seat and has the Giant logo on it.

Went to North Coast Music Festival on Friday September 2nd. I locked It up near the Green line stairs (Ashland/Lake) about 100' north of the main entrance into union park. i thought it would be safe near the security detail by the entrance. I guess I was mistaken. Should have used a U-Lock. This is an older picture of the bike but the frame is still the same. it was taken any time between 6:30-9:30pm. Karma!

Work bike, left unlocked to grab another delivery, was gone when I came back out.

I locked my bike at the corner of Waveland and Jansen unto a street sign and was gone for 2 hours. When I came back, my pride and joy was stolen. Apparently the thief had a bolt cutter and snipped it in broad daylight. However, if this bastard ever wants to fix a flat tire, good luck because I have the Pinhead key.

First off, the bike was stolen inside a bike/storage room that has key access only to residents of the building. It was locked by an OnGaurd cable lock that was around the front wheel, through the frame then eventually attached to a U-lock that was on my other bike in an adjacent parking spot. The bike was last seen locked like this on Saturday 8/27 around 12PM. The bike was discovered stolen on Sunday 8/28 at 8:30PM. After viewing the surveillance tape of the building including the front door and the bike room, it was found that the thief did infact have key access and walked in from the front door, through the hallways and into the bike room where he scouted around for the best bike to take. He spent a total of about 3-5 minutes in the room checking out other bikes (skipping over bikes taht weren't even locked) and eventually got to the location where the bike was parked. Once he gets the bike he proceeded to exit the building the same way he came in. Since he was wearing a hat and seemed to know the placement of the cameras, no one could positively ID the suspect to be a current or past resident of the building. The thief was a white male approximately 5'8" to 5'10", wearing a beige/white baseball cap, white tennis shoes, white socks, skinny build, wearing a black pair of shorts, black t-shirt with large white print on it and a beige/white cloth type messenger bag (probably where he put his bolt cutters). The flap on the messenger bag had a distinctive black stripe on the left part of the flap. He also wore his messenger bag over his right hip and left shoulder. Please do not hesitate to contact me. The bike was secured onto the cable of the vertical bike rack in my garage with a newer u-lock with flat key. It was locked to the frame of the bike using a u-lock. The only people who have access to the garage are the other residents. The bike rack cable was cut off.

Me and my wife left the bikes at bike rack at S. columbus Dr & E Monroe St around 6:30 pm to assist the jazz concert at Jay Pritzker pavilion. When we left our bikes there were no more free space on the rack, in fact the bikes were no lock one next to the other. When we arrive again to the place around 8:30pm both bikes were not there. Probably someone was watching when we left the bikes there.
