Incident Description:
On the evening of 1/7/2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, I secured my bicycle to the rear wooden staircase of my apartment building using a cable lock with a combination. The staircase is connected to the street and to an alley by a narrow sidewalk, with a metal gate on both sides of the walkway, which is normally kept closed. The area is illuminated by a sidewalk well light.
When I returned at approximately 5:30 PM the following evening of 1/8/2026, the bicycle was missing. There was no trace of the lock, including no cut cable or broken components left behind.
Due to the narrow width of the sidewalk between the staircase and the street, it would not have been possible to remove the bicycle toward the street side. Based on the layout, the bicycle would have had to be removed through the alley.
The alley provides access between Whipple Street and Sacramento Street. The theft likely occurred sometime between 11:30 PM and 5:30 AM. No witnesses are known at this time.
