I rode to my university building (UIC Applied Health Sciences building) around 6pm to study inside. I locked it as I usually do in the bike racks in the front of the building. When I left at 11pm, I found the lock, cut, lying where the bike had been left. This area is well lit and typically there is security in the area, so I was very surprised that this happened. THe picture provided is not my own bike, but the same model and color (mine has white handlebar tape)

The bike was locked in front of the Merchandise Mart near the corner of Wells and Kenzie. The rear wheel was locked to the frame with a U-lock, and the front wheel was locked to the frame and the bike rack with a heavy-duty chain lock. This is a very busy area, so I am not sure how it was taken due to the heavy duty lock.

At the time it was stolen, it had a rusty horn (with a big black knob you squeeze), Shimano shifters, a California bicycle license underneath the main crossbar, a grey colorado milk crate attached to the back rack with blue and green climber's webbing, and the chain rings (front gears) were slightly rusty with the middle of the three significantly worn. Arrived back at bike location at exactly 8:30pm. Saw nothing but the cut bike lock. No bike, no witnesses. Still need to investigate nearby cameras.
