Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I left the bike my bike in my gated backyard overnight. Sometime between 8am and 9am someone stole the bike from my backyard. They left my lock and helmet on the ground. They also left the bike they were apparently riding in the alley against my gate.

Bike was stolen sometime between July 24 & Aug 1st 2011 from the rear (facing alley) basement storage room of a building in the middle of the block of 2600 N Orchard st, just west of clark, south of diversey. We have a bike common area in the back of our building which is a 3 flat (storage area is in basement). A number of bikes (probably 8-10 or so) are maintained here and noone locks their bike up (foolishly I followed suit). This area must be entered from a backdoor (which leads outside to a small patio, parking spaces and then the alley) in order to get to the adjacent laundry area which is used by all tenants. There is daily traffic in and out of this area, especially on weekends. Bike was brand new, only rode it once. My best guess is that the door to this area was left wide open at some point and thieves were able to wander in. This room has been burlglarized in the past as people picked the lock, however the landlord does not think this was the case since they have subsequently put a metal cover that covers the space between the door and the door frame where the locks slide in. The door shows no sign of tampering. As noted above, bike has a cable lock wound around the seat pole (I believe it is through the frame as well) which is fastened by a silver master lock that needs a key to be opened. I still have this key. If the bike still has this attached, I could potentially open with the key to prove ownership. The strange thing about the incident is no other bikes appear to have been stolen, and there are at least two others of comparable quality. However, if it was a lone thief, the bike was clearly the newest one and stuck out amongst others due to the bright color, etc.

Bike was fully locked with cable through both tires and u locked to 2" diameter steel stair beam. Bike was locked to a staircase in front of a business.Theft occurred just after logan square arts fest and all standard locking locations were being used. When I returned to the bikes location, it was missing along with the lock, cable, or any evidence of its compromise. Based on the method of locking and what it was locked to, thief would have had to defeat the lock(kryptonite u lock)and done so in such a way as to not arise the suspicion's of the many outdoor diners nearby.

The bike was located in our garage. The thief can in thru the gate on the alley. It is usually locked. There were other bikes in the garage so the person must be on their own. Or concern is that the thief will make a return trip. My little girl is very upset so if anyone sees the bike we would be gratefull for a call. Thanks for your help.

My girlfriend and I went in our apartment for 5-10 minutes to change on Saturday night came out and both bikes that we left on the porch were gone. We know all of our neighbors and they were home it was strange. Suspicious of two dude is a Green Mid 90's pick up truck with black rafters took them, may have been visiting our neighbors. Tall white may 6ft 3in curly blonde hair and a 5'11 black male broad shoulders and shaved head snagged them on their way out. If anyone knows anything please contact me, I miss these bikes and just wish for their return!!!

This bike was stolen along with another Red 50cm Miyata road bike that I'll describe in another post. My girlfriend and I went in my apartment for 5 minutes to change our shirts and go back out and came out on the back porch and both bikes were gone. Incident happened at midnight this saturday. Suspicious of two dudes in a truck that may have run off with them and stashed the bikes somewhere and come back and rode off in the truck. Tall White guy with curly blonde hair, 6'3" Drives a Green mid 90's ford/ gmc pick-up that has black rafters on the side and black guy that's about 5'10" broad shoulders and shaved heard. If anyone has seen these bikes around please let me know!!!Thanks!!!

The bike was taken from my back porch, which is on the second level above Sedgwicks Bar. A Kryptonite U-lock was locked to the frame, front wheel, and wood slat on the porch. The slat was kicked in, and the bike and lock were taken.

Apartment was burglarized and bike was stolen. Happened between 12-8 pm on sunday july 31st.

Left mine and my friend's bike outside for 2 minutes outside McDonalds. His was a purple Schwinn mountain bike about medium sized which also got stolen. I am more concerned about my BMX bike because it was 500 dollars. We went back and weren't there. Someone told me 2 people got on and rode away. Ran about 2 blocks and saw nothing. Called the cops and made a police report. Going later to see if McDonalds to see if they got it on the security camera.

My friend's apartment has a locked glass foyer area. Several people came up the stairs that night. People sometimes hang out near the door, so I think someone lodged something in the door before it closed when one of us went in and then took the bike when everyone was upstairs.

I was out for an early morning ride and stopped at the shell gas station to grab a drink. I went inside got my drink and came out to find my bike was gone. I was only inside for 2 minutes. One african american kid was riding his bike away while another was riding my bike. This was at 530 this morning in evanston on Oakton street at the shell gas station right across from the steak and shake. They rode off to the east into Evanston and I believe they are in a neighborhood in Evanston.

I think someone walked up to the bike and cut the cable and took off with the bike.

Our two bikes were parked along side our garage inside of our locked gate. Sometime in the afternoon someone entered our yard, either through the front gate which is sporadically locked but always closed, or jumped the back gate which opens to the alley. They took both bikes and left through the back gate which they left open. The bikes were unlocked but not easily visible from anywhere except a small space from the front of the house. The theft took place during daylight hours on a weekend.

I went to a yoga class, locked up my bike and when i returned it was gone. i think someone came by, cut the lock and took off with the bike. it had to of been quick, because it was on LaSalle in high traffic.

The bike was locked through the front wheel and the frame, to a medium-sized tree. The tree was along the lakepath, and was about 100 yards from where I was playing sand volleyball. After playing for two hours, I walked over to where my bike had been locked up, and it was gone. The lock was also missing.

I believe my bike was stolen. I saw it around 9 am and when i returned home at 9 pm it was gone lock and all.

I locked my bike to a metal railing that was bolted to the ground and had another metal railing welded to the top of the pole so no one could loop the cable off the railing. I had a cable that looped around both of my tires, frame, and metal railing. I used a U-lock to lock the cable to the frame of the bike. The metal railing was too big for the U-lock to be attached. The bike was inside a gated residential area. Everything is missing.

Left home next to the cafe and bike was there behind locked doors. Came home four hours later and bike was gone. Heard that someone had moved out during that time and am guessing they left doors wide open for someone to come in and grab it.

It was locked to a pole in my front yard and the lock was cut and the helmet and bike are gone.

The bike was locked to the fence in front of the address mentioned above. It is a three-story, multi-unit apartment building. Some shady types were sitting in an idle car out front when we discovered the theft. I was away from the bike for two hours, during which it was stolen. Also stolen was a silver Trek 4400 mountain bike, locked with the green one in the same location. The bikes were locked with two cable locks and a U-lock, and a velcro strap belonging to one of the locks was found on the sidewalk leading up to the building at 3138 W. Logan, leading me to think that the bikes were brought inside and someone at this address has them. Many other bikes locked to the fence were noticeably tampered with, and a blue bike even had it's U-lock broken open. There was a street fest going on, and many many people were walking by. Our 2 bike helmets-locked with the bikes-were also stolen. One was silver with many flags and stickers on it, the other was a black Bell helmet with a Jamaican flag on the side with a light fixture on the front.
