Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I went to the FCC gym at 1235 N Lasalle on Tuesday, January 24th at 7 pm. When I left the gym at 9 pm, the Kyptonite cable lock that had been locking my bike to the bike rack had been cut. The bike lock was left at the scene.

My bike was locked to a bike rack outside of Cobb Hall, just next to Gates-Blake Hall, on the University of Chicago campus. When I returned to the scene 24 hours later, the bike and lock were both gone. No evidence was left.

Two Kyptonite u-locks and lock on-guard skewers do nothing when the thief dismantles the bike rack in your building. At least it will make this theft a PITA. Locked the bike to the racks in the basement as it was nice out and using my summer bike. Went to check on it this morning and it was gone.

Bike was stolen from a condo building garage at night. It was locked to a wall mounted bike rack with a onGuard u-lock. The lock was missing with the bike. Most likely it was cut as there are metal shavings underneath. The thief was caught on the security camera riding away on the bike but was was well covered up and no clear picture of his face was recorded. He was wearing a messenger bag where he most likely carried his tools.

Someone removed the "No Parking" sign my bike was locked to (newer u-lock with flat key). They left the sign but took my bike. I have a pretty busy street so it must have been fairly late at night. I think they just rocked the sign back and forth until it came apart.

It was the only bike among the others in the parking structure to get stolen. Other bikes have remained untouched and this is the first time in 7 months a bike has been stolen from this complex.

Bike was locked to rack in front of Lill Street Art Center along with others around 8:30pm. Classes let out around 9:30. Bike and lock were gone when I left at 10:30pm. The only unusual detail is that it was the oldest and rustiest there.

I U-locked my bike with my girl friend's bike on the other side of the pole, which was a chicago sign, that WAS bolted to the base, at the end of Critical Mass to see the Polkaholics play at Lincoln Lanes. Pole was located outside Lincoln Lanes, Near the Mc Donalds on the corner. People outside saw the guy unbolt and lift the pole it was locked to, and ride off wearing low top green sneakers, wearing knickers, backpack, longer hair to about his shoulders. Bike was found missing after momentarily stepping into CVS. Was away from bike for no more than 10 minutes. No security camera footage was available.

Bike was for sale and the would be thief came to my residence to purchase it. After requesting to take it for a test ride he offered to keep his bag with what he claimed was his computer and personal belongings at my home. He went for a test ride and never returned. After inspecting his bag, no computer was found. WARNING: Do not allow test rides without completely assessing the value of the collateral!!!!! This guys supposed name was Shane Childs, we will probably not use his actual cell phone to contact you.

I was storing the bike on the landing outside of my 3rd floor apartment. The main entrance to the stairs is locked, and my bike had been covered in slush, so i left it out there to melt/dry. I left the apartment this morning at around 10:30, and by the time i got back from school at ~8, it was gone. Either the front door was left open and someone came in and grabbed it, or someone in my building has stolen it.

I locked my bike to the Bike racks on Ashland at the Clybourn Metra stop (the racks under the overpass, not the racks on Armitage). While I was at work, someone cut my lock and left it, stealing my bike.

I had a ulock and cable lock tied to my bike to a bike rack with at least 15 bikes around. Mine was the most secured there too lol WTF? No great camera angles that can even see bike or culprit. I didn't check my bike on any of my breaks, but it's located directly in front of the store and we have security walking the premise so double WTF.

Bike was noticed stolen at 10:40 pm on January 12th, 2012. Bike lock had been cut and taken with the bike. Bike lock (Kryptonite Ubolt and Kryptonite Braided chain) were found less than a block away at 501 W Surf Street outside in the bushes. Video surveillance shows the individual walking the bike around the corner and throwing the bike locks into the bushes and keeps walking west on Surf. The individual was wearing a black coat, with grey hooded sweatshirt, as well as a stocking back. The man was approximately 5'10"-6' tall and looked to be of average build. Tire tracks were traced westward to Broadway but then lost in the intersection. The individual cut the uBolt with a powered cutting device and had a messenger bag with him. The cut was clean and discolored darker towards the end of the cut. The plastic around the metal was melted as well.

I recently moved into a new 4 story walk up, a retail space on the ground floor and 3 apartments above it. In the back of the building was a stairwell that was used for the apartments to access a garage, parking area and dumpsters (for the retail also). At the bottom of the stairwell is a small storage area and hallway that other residents stored their bikes, strollers, etc. Since the bikes were only locked to themselves and stored within a locked room (no windows)that only residents and the retail space had access to, I felt comfortable storing my bike there. On Monday 1/9/12, when I got home, my bike was gone. After speaking with the other residents and managers of the salon in the retail space, it seems as if none of them are responsible. I am assuming someone left the back common door unlocked or someone brok in. This bike looks brand new. I bought in June but only rode about 10 times for about an hour each. You wouldn't know that it wasn't brand new except for the flat tires.

I ran inside to see my brother at work and when I came out my bike was gone. Object which the bike was locked to (with a newer u-lock w/flat key) was broken :( Someone definitely got coal for Christmas! I'd love any information about the potential location of the bike. I miss it so much!!
