Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

i locked up my bike in front of an arts supply store at 5.45pm at a fairly busy intersection (right next to the brown line L) in a commercial/residential downtown area and came back after a yoga class at 9.15pm found it gone, with the cut cable lock on ground. think the theft happened really fast because there's always people around - across the street from a bus and L stop, in front of a big, well-lit arts supply store. there was some construction at that end of the street, which meant pedestarian traffic was less than usual.

I have heard that U-locks that are the long size can be popped by a crowbar easily and think that may have happened because nothing was cut or disturbed in any way around the area where the bike was.

I locked up my bike, went in to toast my friend's birthday. Came back out and the street sign it had been securely locked to was now housing two different road bikes and my cruiser was gone. Filed a police report. Am now despondent.

I left the Bike unlocked in my Back yard...

Friends bicycle was left in front of the Damen Blue Line stop for a couple days. PLEASE HELP!

Bike lock was clipped, lock left on the ground. Someone obviously knew what they were doing. The cut on the lock had rusty residue on it, implying the tools used were old.

I had just finished a 3 hour workshop at Moksha when an acquaintence came in saying someone had stolen the back wheel off a bike parked outside while he was watching - that he tried to confront and intimidate the man into giving the bike back, but he didn't have a cell phone and didn't know what to do. I looked outside and realized my bike had been completely stolen, and another bike on the same rack had had its rear wheel stolen (I was unable to locate the owner of the other bike). The wheel thief is a 5'10 African-American man with dreadlocks, carrying the wheel and a plastic garbage bag. He was last seen heading southeast on Milwaukee Ave. I searched the surrounding area on foot as best I could, including an abandoned looking homeless camp-out area near where the interstate goes by.

The only people with access into our building are UPS, FedEX, and messengers. We know both our UPS and FedEX delivery people but it could have been a messenger... It also could have been someone who sees me ride everyday and bring my bike upstairs into our office. People can buzz up to an office and simply SAY, "FedEX" and usually be buzzed in with no questions asked. This could have been the situation.

Bike was left on the back porch while I was coming in and out to grill. The back porch faces the alley between Marshfield and Ashland.

I locked my bike and left it to go to an interview. When I came back in an hour it was gone. No one in the area had noticed anything. It happened right in the middle of the day. The bike is not easy to conceal as it is a big mountain bike.

Our automatic garage door opener was unknowingly & accidentally triggered.Opening the garage door late at night.Easy access for theives.

at around 8pm, there were some noise where i have the bike locked. i think that multiple persons actually pulled the sign post out and took the bike fully locked. the pole were loosely fitted into the ground the morning i found the bike missing.

Locked garage was broken into. Bike and other item was stolen.

Photo provided is not actual bike, but this is the kind and almost exact coloring. Locked bike up at el station around 8:45 a.m., got on train and went to work as always. But this time, when I got off the train coming home, my bike and its lock were gone. There was someone else's cut chain on the ground right where I left my bike. Guess someone got away with more than one bike today at the Halsted Orange Line station.

Party at my fraternity house, and someone gained access to our basement and took the bike out the front door. The bike was last seen by me around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th and was first noticed missing around noon the following day. UChicago fall sports players were present, and it is suspected that either a member of the women's volleyball team or a member of the men's football team.

bike was in parking lot locked toa fence on the side of Uptown Lounge. The lock appeared to not be touched, but the bike was gone. Very odd.

Victim was on the bike in front of the parking lot gate of Mark Sheridan when the three thieves came towards him and picked him off the bike. They then proceeded to steal the victim's bike and ran off with it.

Bike stolen from in front of Quiznos on Halsted just north of Wrightwood.

Bike was locked inside a gated yard but possibly visible from street to someone who was looking. Locked to a wrought iron fence with only a cable. Left the bike at 8pm and saw that it was gone without a trace at 6am the next morning.

Worked out for 1.5 hours at YMCA and went to leave and bike and lock were gone
