Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

While bike not locked, it was in our gated area. Gate impossible to climb over as it is tall and has spikes. Roommates bike beside it also unlocked but untouched.

Locked bike outside Crerar Library on UChicago campus on bike rack - back row rack on far left side. Left until around 6:40pm. By then, bike was gone.

Two masked individuals gained access to the locked bike room in the basement of the 2555 N Clark St parking ramp on 10/18/2020 and stole 4-5 high-value bikes. My bike had a Kryptonite cable that secured the front wheel to the bike rack. The cable was looped through the back wheel as well, and my Kryptonite U-lock was fed through both ends of the cable lock, making a complete locked system. I'm kicking myself because the U-lock did not secure the frame of the bike to the bike rack itself (I figured that wouldn't be needed because it was in a secure room). Neither the bike nor lock were present after it had been stolen.

Locked bike to rack in apartment courtyard area on the evening of 10/21 around 8pm and returned next morning around 7am on 10/22 and bike along with lock was missing, presumed to be stolen.

Detached garage in the rear of house has forced entry through deadbolted door. This bike was not locked in the garage.

Oct 15th around 5pm the garage door to the apartment garage was left open and someone walked in and stole the bike. Unsure how they broke the U-lock.

Around 3 or 4 pm on Monday, October 19, 2020, I put my bike in my building’s basement as usual. To get to the basement, you have to go through a locked gate and then through the locked basement door. Presumably only residents of the building have a key to the gate and basement door. Other residents store their bikes in the basement, as well. The next day, at 4 pm, I went to the basement to get my bike to ride it to work. As I approached the gate, I noticed in the alley that a white van was parked. There appeared to be maintenance men doing something near our building. When I went into the basement, I saw my bike was gone. There were two other bikes in the basement: one bike sitting intact and another bike had its wheels taken off.

I keep my bike in the enclosed garage of St Clements School in Lakeview Chicago. On this day someone left the gate open and my bike was stolen. I assume it was someone walking through the alley as I keep my bike nearer to that gate since it is usually closed, unfortunately on this day it wasn't.

On October 23rd we received : "Good news, yesterday I recovered my bike in coordination with the 19th Police District. It involved a sting where we met, after finding the bike for sale online." Original report: Two people were observed on camera breaking into highrise apt building's bike room by breaking door the night of Sat Oct 17th in Lakeview. The bike was locked with only a wire lock at the time.

Second bike to go missing from the basement this week. In locked shared basement of apartment building

The bike was under stairs in the back of my building, behind a faulty gate that sometimes doesn’t lock. The bike was not locked to anything under the stairs. I put the bike there sometime around 1:30pm/2:00pm and noticed it was gone at 9:00/9:30pm

Locked bike up on Friday late evening/early morning Saturday just after midnight. Left it there over weekend and today (Monday) went to go bike to the gym and it was missing. I usually bike every day, but with the rainy weather I did not and my building (Park Place Tower) currently is full for their bike room and I'm on a waitlist.

The bike was stolen outside of Village Discount on Milwaukee Ave in Logan Square/Bucktown. It was locked for only 15 minutes and was missing when I returned to the bike.
