The bike was locked outside the Barnes and Noble book store on the University of Chicago campus just before 9 am. It was seen again at 11:50. Upon returning at 6:45, the bike was gone, the cable that had been securing it was cut and on the ground, along with the helmet which had been locked to the bike.

The bike was attached to the metal fence with a steel combination lock on the western side of the property. A clear plastic tarp covered the bike to protect it from rain; the tarp is not missing.
