Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was on display (for J.C. Lind Bike Co.) in a window of an empty retail space at 1254 N. Wells street. Door was either left open by landlord or one of their employees or else the thief had a key to gain entry as there was no forced entry. There were two other bikes stolen in the same incident and will post additional reports for those.

I got distracted while locking up my bike to the fence next to the front of Handlebar. I must have passed the Heavy Duty Bike Security Chain over the frame instead of through it and ended up only locking the front wheel. When I came out a few hours later, only the wheel was left locked up to the fence :(

My Bike was locked in front a friends house each night this weekend (friday and saturday), during the day I was removing and riding but locking it up to the main iron bar of the fence each night. Saturday night a neighbor had commented that he'd seen people admiring it. Sunday Morning the bike was gone, along with lock. There was a note that said "move your bike somewhere else, i stopped someone trying to steal it at 4:30 AM." Clearly someone was intent on getting it as they came back and got it (no damage to the fence) and left the note.

The only items left behind were cut bungie cords. So the thieves must have been in a hurry. Possibly scrappers in North West Indiana of Hammond. This is a heavily gang infested area. A lot of stealing is present along the tree street in North Hammond.......Even the Hammond Police are cautious. Due to Hammond budget cuts, the Hammond Police no longer have bike patrols unless it is at a festival.....

Bike has been parked in the yard for over a 3 months since moving to new apt. Locked to itself with a newer u-lock w/flat key. Stolen last night in the rain.

Due to a mover's not showing up I had to move a lot of my items to a new apartment via a car and did not have room to bring the bike that. I had locked it securely to a bike rack and had to make plans to come back and ride it my new apartment at the first available opportunity. That unfortunately wasn't until a week later. When I showed up to get it, the bike was gone.

I work at Peet's Coffee and Tea. I have ridden my bike to work there five times a week for the entirety of the summer and spring and periodically in the winter. Yesterday afternoon I locked my bike outside of work, worked an 8 hour shift, and then got out of work. My bicycle was still locked. I spent the night at a friend's house in Evanston and went to work again this afternoon at noon. My bicycle was there this morning at noon. After work at roughly 10:00pm, I went outside to go get my bicycle and it was no longer there. I searched the meter for signs of tamper and discovered both pieces of my cut Kryptonite Ulock on the ground by the meter.

I kept my handcycle on a rack on the wall in the enclosed garage of my 24-unit condo building, in my parking space area. It was secured to a metal ring that was bolted to the concrete block wall with the thickest cable lock that I could find (I probably should have used several u-locks.) I don't know the exact time it was stolen but I did wake up and hear some noises from the alley behind the building at around 2:00 AM on Friday, Sept. 16. Other bikes have been stolen from our garage recently.

Bike was stolen during a 15 min window, steps from the HS main entrance. Lock was somehow opened and rack is undamaged. The bike is highly customized with all new parts, only the original 1997 Yellow Carbon Frame is old.

In parking garage of condo building. 2 gates, many people leave their bikes in the garage usually locked to themselves, another one was stolen the same night.

I parked my bike outside my office a little after 8 am. I came back out at 11:45 to go to lunch and it was gone. No sign of the lock.

A white man in a two-colored polo and a Sox hat walked into the back porch area of my work (Punky's), grabbed my bike, got on it, and rode away, heading west on 26th. We have video cameras so I saw him do it.

Bike was in a park. Kids on the playground saw a girl "twisting something". Did not know her.

Bike was locked up outside of my work location. When I went to retrieve it after work at about 6pm, it was not there, but the U-lock was. Someone had either broken into the U-lock or I had not locked it correctly.

Paul locked up his bike at the beach and went for a short swim. He came back to find his bike gone and a crappy mountain bike in its place. It was early Sunday afternoon and the beach was not crowded. Several people went searching for the bike along the path but couldnt find the thief.

Since I have owned this bike (since June 2011), I have always kept it in the inside back porch of my apartment. The interior of the porch is not visible from the street, and the apartment is on the 2nd floor (with a raised garden apartment). The back porch requires a key that only my roommates and neighbors in the two apartments below me have access to. The lock did not appear to have any stress or damage to it. My bike was on the porch last night when I was in my apartment and this morning it was gone. I have filed a police report, though I am currently at work and not able to access the report number.

Someone forced open the main door to the building and cut the cable lock on my bike, which was locked to a steel post under the stairway. The cable lock and my helmet, which was hanging on the bike, were left behind.

Someone must have been watching and specifically targeted my bike. I had a heavy duty steel cable and padlock. I made sure that the lock was completely engaged and that the bike was affixed to the rack. My bike was locked to a rack with another black mountain bike.
