Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Two bikes were tied together to a tree. The cable combination bike lock was wound though the frames and both front wheels in front of Unos on Ohio St

Locked bike in front of Monroe Harbor marina entrance. When I returned, it was missing. Same day as Chicago Triathlon, so a lot of people in the area. When I arrived, a lady warned me not to park next to a blue bike that had parked next to hers and locked their bike to hers, she'd had their lock cut. I should've taken this as a sign to go elsewhere but I'm an idiot and here we are. Also my lock probably sucked. Feel like a moron.

Bike was left locked in front of my vehicle in the parking garage at 1957 N. Fairfield Rd. There were complaints of mass theft from the building, and residents were alerted on August 22nd. I noticed my bike was gone where I had locked it with a u lock and rope extension to parking bumper under my vehicle. The lock itself and rope attachment were taken along with the the bike. Helmet was left.

On August 19, 2024, at approximately 01:00 hours, a white male wearing a white cap, white shirt, black backpack, blue jeans, and white shoes used a screw to tamper with and jam the front/main entrance door. After gaining entry, the individual proceeded to the garage door entrance. Inside the garage, using a flashlight and his phone, he searched through and checked all storage cages and closets to see if there was anything valuable to steal. During this time, he moved our child's blue bike and stroller to access other items. The suspect then noticed our blue Tern Family electric bike, which was secured to a shelf. He moved several items in front of our car to clear his path and spent nearly 10 minutes breaking the lock. Once the lock was broken, he attempted to exit through the garage door, but when that failed, he exited with the bike through the same front/main entrance door he had initially used to enter, at approximately 01:15 hours. All of this was recorded by our apartment complex's video camera. The tools required to break the lock were carried in his backpack.

I parked my bike at E Dock at Belmont Harbor around 6:15pm, when I returned around 10:15pm, I saw that the cable had been cut and the u-lock was left at the scene

The bike was hanging in a shared garage of an alley. No sign of breaking in so the garage door may have been left open by a neighbor. There is no police report because I didn't have the serial number, I mistook the model number socket for a serial number. I'm pretty gutted, this bike was perfect.

Locked bike at 5:30 pm on Friday, gone the next day 5pm

It happened in the 24 hours between 4:30 pm august 20th and 4:30pm august 21st. The bike was taken from my apartment buildings bike rack at the back of the building. All the other bikes seem to remain.

Bikes were hanging from the ceiling in an enclosed personal garage behind my apartment building.

The bike was locked on bike racks outside of the Ravenswood Metra station entrance

The bike was stored in the walkway behind a locked gate. The thief somehow got access to the walkway and left with the bike.

Bike locked to bike rack on parked car near Montrose Beach. Returned and it was gone. Lock doesn’t appear broken.

I went to go to work this morning and my bike was gone. It was chained to a deck post in a locked courtyard, no street or alley visibility. I use it to commute, and used it mostly recently on Friday, 8/16/24

Went to retrieve my bike and it was gone with cut lock and helmet left at the scene

[On 8/19/24, victim reported that the bike had been recovered: "I was able to recover my bike today at the park it was stolen from. I ended up putting my bike description and contact information on Bike Index, Garage 529 & the Chicago Stolen Bike registry the moment it went missing and I feel like that was a good start to recovering the bike. Great services all around! I ended up searching at a local bike shop that was notorious for reselling stolen bikes near the park where my bike was stolen and had zero luck. I thought maybe it wouldn’t hurt to walk around the park and funny enough-- it was there with two teenagers on their phones. Was able to get an accurate description of the guys and verify it was really my bike by walking by them with my phone in my hand to record inconspicuously. The police were then notified and were able to apprehend them and get my bike back with just the lights missing, the handle grips swapped out & a different cupholder installed. Hope this information helps, once again thank you for having this site up for people to begin the process of recovering their bikes!!"] Fished for largemouth bass at the River Park dam spillway and left my bike underneath the bridge between the main park/soccer field & the North Park Holmgren Athletic Complex baseball field. I was fishing the point where the water spills over for about an hour and a half, and when I returned to my bike it was gone. I had stowed my bike in the gated area underneath the bridge. The bike is an XL 2020 Gray Specialized hybrid bicycle with mechanical disc brakes, adjustable front shocks, front and rear Cat Eye lights & a kick stand.

Locked bike to bike rack in front of Park Place Tower at around 6:45pm. Went out downtown and came back at 1:00AM and bike was gone

I’ve been keeping my back locked out back the last two weeks for easy access, I previously kept it locked it my laundry room, but it was hard going up and down the stairs. I didn’t realize my bike was missing until I went down to do laundry. The broken lock was left on the railing. I use this bike for Uber eats as a side job as I’m putting myself through school.

Left my bike locked to rack in the middle of the day in plain eye sight. taken within 30 min of being left there.

The bike was removed from a locked garage.
