Bike was locked through frame inside gated back yard area of residential apartment complex to the bottom of a wooden staircase's railing. Bike locked around 7 p.m. on October 20th, 2014, and bike was gone by 9 a.m., October 21st, 2014. Another bike was also stolen in the same time frame, it was unlocked and on the second-level porch.

I just found out that the cameras that are installed there (one looking straight at the spot where the bike was) are dummies. Also, during the past few weeks, the lights in the rear yard have been on and off in an apparently random fashion.

The bike was parked in the hallway in front of the office where I work. The hallway is private though so anyone not working in my group should not have been in the hallway. Someone entered the hallway and grabbed my bike and walked through and out of the building with it. They left the helmet lying on the ground and so almost immediately after it happened one of my co-workers noticed it was missing. It happened at Northwestern University.
