Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was stored inside University of Chicago building.

Bike was stolen from my garage by someone who was obviously scoping the place out.

Bike was taken within last few days. All other bikes left untouched, my road bike definitely targeted. No sign of lock. Second break-in in as many weeks at my apartment building garage

Locked bicycle to bike rack at 6:35 a.m. Friday Morning, March 2. Went into a clinic approximately 1/2 block away to donate blood plasma. Returned to bike at 8:25 a.m. and it was missing along with the lock.

Looks like a fancy racing bike, but it's 8 years old and creaks. One of the brake cables is starting fray. Looks like I shouldn't have waited to buy a U-Lock :(

I locked my Yellow Schwinn at 5PM, went to Union Station (north end at Madison). Returned at 8:55AM the following morning to find the bike missing.

The bike was parked across from Sears Tower and the U-lock was probably cut. The link plate lock was attched from the body to the wheel. The address on the police report is incorrect because of a Google Maps error.

Was inside for about 2 hrs for a meeting, bike was removed from the object it was locked to within that time.

Went to bring my bike inside because I was going to be working late and it was gone. I had seen it an hour earlier when I went to get dinner at 6:30PM.

The bicycle was stolen from my single car garage around 4 PM . It was not locked and taken from the back of the garage.

Bike was at UIC for a couple days. Several student bikes are left in front of the dorms. Must have been cut at wee hours, of Tuesday or Wednesday night, Feb 21-23. Found cleanly sawed lock on the ground.

Bike was locked to the fence outside the bedroom in our garden level apartment (newer u-lock with flat key). Around 4:00 a.m., I woke up to what sounded like someone pulling on the fence outside. A few seconds later, I saw the motion-detector powered light on the side of our building (leading to the back alley) go on. I ran upstairs to check on the bike, thinking that it had been stolen, and was shocked to see that it was still there. I didn't go outside to fully inspect it, but it looked like the lock was still attached and all was well. I waited upstairs and watched the bike for 5-10 minutes to see if the thief would try again. I then went back downstairs to try to go back to sleep. About 10 minutes later, I heard the door in our gate slam and various car noises and music. When I went outside the next day to bike to the gym, the bike was gone. The fence the bike was locked to had been cut and the bike stolen. The bike was less than two months old.

Left the bike locked at the train station because it was rush hour. Came back 4 hours later from work, and the bike was gone along with the lock. I asked the security at the train station and she did not know anything about it happening.

Large set of bike racks at the employee entrance to the museum. When I came out from work, only cut lock was left.

I am re-posting this info from an email list. This was not my bicycle. A high end bicycle was stolen from Get a Grip's Irving Park Road location in the early hours of Saturday, February 18th, at 4:24am. Bike has been locked in basement for winter, was last seen Thursday night.

I checked on the bike before doing some paperwork around 1am. When I came back up around 1:40am the bike was gone. I checked the surveillance tapes and was able to see the perpetrator walk off with my bike and helmet around 1:30am after cutting my lock. Reported it to the police, will update with police report number.

Bike was stolen from outside of UIC on Taylor Street. Locked to the bike rack with a cable and U-lock, both cut and left at the scene. Bike has a gold water bottle cage, 105 components, bell mounted on headset spacer, and Terry seat.

Bike was locked to bike rack outside dorm at Northwestern University. Bike was gone in the morning. Incident was reported to University Police.
