Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I left my bike in front of my dorm and forgot to lock it up overnight. I assume someone from the neighborhood (Hyde Park or Washington Park) stole it. Another bike was also stolen the same night, although it was locked with a cable lock. The only unusual thing is that there is always someone in the lobby of our dorm, but she may not have been looking outside at night.

No doubt someone up and pulled the sign out of the ground and rode off into the sunset with my brand new bike I worked my butt off for. Rookie mistake, locking it to a street sign, but not one I'll make again. Probably in broad daylight, and definitely in front of quite a few security cameras.

It was both locked to itself and to the rack (two locks). They cut the cable lock and will have to try to remove the u lock later. There was also a silver helmet attached to the lock.

Stolen in broad daylight on one of the busiest streets in downtown Chicago. Lock and bike were completely missing. I have a theory that a van or truck pulled up to the bike rack (there is a temporary loading zone right next to the racks), cut the lock and drove off quickly. There was no report at building security by anyone who might have seen something.

I locked the bike there on Tuesday, I saw it there Wednesday when I returned home, it was gone Thursday morning and a different bike was in its place

Some douchebag cut the lock and stole it.

The bike was stolen from my garage which is locked. The only way in is with a key or garage door opener. My building only has 6 units and all 6 residents have keys to the garage. The maintenence staff also has access. My bike was stolen with at least 3 others.

My bike was locked to one of the many bike racks in front of the Jefferson Park Blue Line train station. I found my cable lock around the bike that was next to mine on the rack. The lock was closed. I was able to open the lock with the key but upon trying again the keywould no longer turn the lock. I found that I could easily remove the plastic cover over the lock and I figure that the thief cut the plastic cover off to get to the lock and picked it.

This was amazing...I jumped off my bike inside my gate, ran inside my house to get my dog out, and when I got back outside (30 seconds later) my gate was wide open and my bike was gone. This was at 1:30 this afternoon! And this is my second bike to be stolen in about a month. Rainbow colored (painted myself) Lotus 10 speed. (Old bike, but awesome). Please let me know if you see or find either of these bikes. They are both very distinct and they have to be out there somewhere. I am really Pissed Off about this and I hope my luck will change soon.

I left it out over night in my backyard...which I shouldn't do...but my backyard is gated.

I locked my bike to the bike rack along Monroe Ave in Millennium Park by the spitting fountains and went to work. When I came back out at 12:30, the bike was gone and there was another bike locked in the same place. My bike is pretty old and crappy - it's an old Randor, and there's not many of those around anymore - and I don't know why anyone would want to steal it!

Bike was locked in very high traffic(pedestrian/auto) area. Someone must have cut the chain very quickly.

my bike was locked to a bike rack with about 5 other bikes. the area is frequented by office workers on smoking breaks and by the students of harrington school of design. someone must have come by when no one else was around and found a way to steal my bike.

Bike was locked up to parking sign directly in front of heavily trafficed apartment building. There was some construction on on side oe the sidewalk so traffic was being interrupted. Soon after dark the bike was lifted.

The attached picture of the bike was taken from the Iron Horse website as I never took a picture of my bike before it was stolen. The only difference between the picture and my bike is that the front shocks on my bike were grey\silver. I arrived at the X-Sport on 3240 N. Ashland at 9:30 AM on Saturday 9/15/2007 and locked my bike to a big tree in front of X-Sport. I came outside approx 10:45 and discovered it was stolen. The Kryptonite combination cable lock was cut and left wrapped around the tree and obviously the bike was gone. There are many bikes parked\locked in front of this location and a lot of foot traffic in this area. It was a bright and sunny day when this occurred.

Bike was stolen in the middle of the day. The surveilance tape showed it to be a african american with a backpack.

I rode my bike to work, locked it up on the sidewalk to a bike rack as I've done all Summer and came out of my office around 3 pm to discover the bike was gone.

I parked my bike on our porch, but had a rough day and after carrying in the groceries I completely spaced and forgot to run back out and lock up the bike. Shame on me! Needless to say, they got the lock and key as well.
