Locked bike in front of the Depaul library Monday. Finished studying, walked out smiling with helmet in hand and looked at the empty bike rack then left...then right..."mmm, that's funny, I thought I put it there." After the moment of bewilderment, was struck with a punch to the gut as I realized it was gone... It was a cable lock with a masterlock combo. I new it wasn't the best lock which is why I don't leave it outside normally...pretty sure someone had bolt cutters and swiped the bike after a quick snip. bummer

Apartment was broken into and the bike was stole along with computers,tv's, and stereo equipment.

I locked my bike up this morning next to my office building at 500 W. Monroe. The bike was locked with an older model Kryptonite u-lock to the bike rack through the frame of the bike and the front tire. When I left my office today around 6, the bike was no longer there.

Sad, sad day.

The bike was U-locked to my third floor back porch railing with a bike chain through the frame. The wooden slat was easily pulled away from the railing and the bike was removed with both locks.

Locked it up, just like I always do, through frame and front tire with cable through back tire. Went to a movie, came out, poof it was gone... bike, lock, cable, and all. Lack of any trace of the crime leads me to believe it was probably stolen by a pro? No idea. so sad.

This bike was stolen along with an old red cruiser bike (fairly battered) from our private fenced-in yard. It had been there since 8 pm last night. The fence is a privacy fence (not chain link) so someone must have been in the yard OR peering through the cracks in the fence trolling for bikes to steal. We have certainly learned our lesson - that bikes must be locked at all times (even in the privacy of our yard) but my son is heartbroken as he had received this bike for his birthday.

I left my bike locked outside of Province restaurant on Jefferson for a little over an hour while I was inside working on a project. The restaurant wasn't open yet, but servers were inside setting up. The bike was visible from the restaurant, but not directly in front. I went in at about 10:15 AM, and when I came out at 11:30 AM it was gone. Note that the picture I posted is a commercial image of the bicycle, not mine--though it is what mine looks like, minus the rack. I have photos of mine but they're at home and I had to come straight to work. That's also why I can't post the serial number at the moment, but if I can modify this posting later I'll update it.

The thief cut through the metal fence to take the bike, either very late or very early on 3/16 to 3/17. No evidence the Newer U-Lock w/flat key was defeated.

Locked bike to metal fence just outside of an apartment. I was inside for about 40 minutes. When I cam out my lock had been cut and left at the scene. I now have a very nice ULOCK for my new bike.

I'm filling this out more so just for record keeping of stolen bicycles since I just recently found out the Chicago Police do not keep good records. Happened in 2008 in front of a DePaul dorm.

Bike was stolen from back deck of condo which has a locked gate around the entire building, therefore was not locked.

Lots of bike riders and traffic frequent this area.. strange because it happened in broad daylight between 10am-2:30pm. Always have secured my bike this way and have never had a problem in 2 1/2 years. No witnesses even though a high school is on this block and it is a school day. No trace.

Bike was U-locked to front wheel and front post, which was unscrewed and lifted off of front wheel.

Ok, Wasn't gonna bother with this, but now that I'm cruising craigslist every day, just noticed another Andersonville broken heart (so sorry, girl) I'll do my civic duty. Mine got angle-ground Friday morning (3/4) just south of Foster and Clark. Description I got was 5'8", khaki hoodie, mocha skin tone, battery-powered grinder. (Guy started, spooked, and came back, loud grinder, witnesses, etc. Receptionist watched the whole thing from less than 15 feet and "didn't realize what was happening." Told me about it 10 minutes after he rode away.) Anyway, it had the nice Honjo hammered fenders, mismatched dark-red Crank Bros Candy pedals (one long spindle, one short), mismatched 105 STI brifters (left lever is black, right is metal-tone), brand-new (that very morning!) brake pads (red on rear, black in front), a really old thin-line Brooks seat, Continental Gatorskin tires (not the knobbies shown below.) Looks new from a distance, very well-used up close. Don't have any pix - base model is below. Feel free to kill whoever tries to sell it to you. Either way, please lemme know. I rode home on Saturday night. I locked my bike where I normally lock it with a heavy duty bicycle security chain. While I laid eyes upon it at least three times on Sunday I didn't ride it. Monday afternoon I leave the house to find it missing. The bike has a ring lock going through the rear wheel so unless that is removed (not that easy of a task) the bike will remain immobilized.

In front of Roosevelt University on Michigan Ave at 3:15 PM on a Friday March 4th. Busy street with constant flow of students and people waiting for bus. Incident took place 20 feet from bus stop. Angle grinder was the tool used on heavy duty bike lock.

bike was locked to a rack in front of an office. was there at 1 PM, gone at 4:30 pm.

I locked it with a cable lock because my U-lock was stuck when I locked it up in the morning at around 8:55 am in front of my office building. When I left work, it was gone. None of the building saw the theft.
