The bike was locked up with a U-lock in front of 540 West Melrose this weekend, and it's a red "Merida" brand road bike. There won't be too many like this in Chicago. The lock is gone, the bike is gone, and the post where it was locked is unharmed. Someone probably made off with it in the middle of the night.

Photo isn't exactly as it looks now. But it's still a super distinctive bike. The frame is angular, not circular and it's a neon green color. It has orange handle bars (straight bar), black pedals, black saddle (has lights on the back of the saddle, battery operated), gold chain, no back brake, front brake, gold DT Champion Weinmeann DP18 form 32 mm with Velox rim strip wheels, and a flip flop hub. It's only a year and a half old so it doesn't have any major scratches, but a few minor ones, nothing noticeable though.

Bike was on rack in a shared garage facing an alley. Workmen were in and out of garage on another unit, and must have left garage unattended, however briefly. Only the Bianchi was stolen. A low-end Trek next to it; a kid's Schwinn, and an adult tricycle w/basket were not taken. Nor was anything else (pump, etc.). No forced entry into garage. Could have happened any time between when I left the garage on Tuesday, 7 Sep. and when I checked the garage this afternoon.

Very good to excellent condition. There is a small metal label on the bike (or tube) that says "New Jersey Cycle", which is the store where it was purchased. There is a small black wedge shaped storage bag that I had attached under the bike seat. The bike was purchased less than 2 years ago. The outer layer of plastic on the bike pedal is slightly rubbing off.

I locked it to the tree outside the apartment, and left it there for only a few hours. It was still daylight when I noticed that it was stolen -the lock and everything was gone. I reported it to the police. When I was locking it with the cable, I did notice a woman in a white car watching me do so. I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. Sometime between September 02 and September 07 my combination bike lock was cut and the bicycle removed from a gated back area that is shared by the small apartment complex. It was the only bike taken, all the other bikes remained unharmed. The cut lock was left at the scene. Only tenants have access to the gated area (secured by a key); however, scaling the fence could be achieved. The bike area is overlooked by a few windows, and so I assume the theft happened in the night.

Used heavily. Many nicks on the frame. Leather "buzz off" seat is worn and has/had duck tape on the end. Rock Shocks, XT integrated bottom branket/crank. XTR rear derailer. Tires were pretty new. The break cable on the front has very little clearance to the front tire. The rubber protector on the cable actually rubs the front tire and is coming apart. The handlebars are gray with worn grips. Rear wheel is a salsa rim with an XT hub. Front wheel hub is a Bontrager and the hub is slightly loose. LX front integrated shifters/break leavers. Wheatridge Cyclery sticker on the downtube. Toeclip pedals.
