Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I left my bike locked up in front of my previous apartment building. Checked on it last Wednesday and it was secure. Came back yesterday to put it in storage and it was gone. U lock was gone too.

The bike had been out for a couple of weeks. It was there the day before the incident, so I know it was stolen sometime in the last 24 hours (as of Dec 11, 2016, 2:30 pm). My bike had a history (albeit, not a big one) of being harassed in this location. While its basket wasn't attached at the time of its theft, if usually had a basket on the handlebars. Many people would throw trash into it, and one day I found the basket to be severely dented (prompting me to unattach it). My bike attracted a lot of attention from my schoolmates, who thought it was adorable. And it is adorable. But nobody steals a bike for being adorable, right? The kind of person who steals a bike in the first place is not the kind of person who wants a light green flowery bike. What confuses me even more is that the lock was taken, too. That means the person who took it really wanted, enough to not just break the lock and go. A lot of people told me my bike was pretty, but I don't see those people actually going as far as taking it.

Bike was locked at the Bryn Mawr Red Line Station, inside the station where there are bike racks. When I got there, I discovered my heavy-duty chain was frozen shut and so I only locked the bike to itself, using the built-in wheel locking system. I assume that whoever stole my bike was very strong and simply picked it up and walked away with it, or more likely took it up onto the train. The bike weighs about 200 lbs. and is almost impossible for me to lift myself, hence the unwise decision I made.

Locked to street sign across from the Cultural Center, right in front of Chase Bank branch window that had security camera outside on 78 E. Randolph @ 150 N. Michigan Ave. during heavy rush hour foot traffic, between 6 to not even 8pm.

Person dug up the 'No Parking' sign and slipped the lock underneath. Lock is heavy duty and would likely still be attached to the bike.

Stolen at 303 E Chicago Ave. Bike was locked to a traffic sign with a Abus lock, heavy duty. Lock was cut with an angle grinder. The theft has been taken place between 8 am and 3pm.

Bike is kept by east staircase in apartment lobby, along with other bikes. Apartment lobby can only be accessed with a key or door code. Never really a need to lock the bike up, it was hidden in the back and there are other bikes more visible that aren't locked as well. Girlfriend left about 7:30a and returned around 8:10a and noticed it missing. She is confident it was there when she left at 7:30a. Last I can personally verify it was there for sure was last night (11/7) around 10p.

Locked by as usual at Dee road Metra station, left it for a night and found no bike next morning.

Bike was in my garage. It must have been stolen during the afternoon or night of Monday Nov 28, 2016.

Door of apartment building was left open, someone came in and took the bike from the 3rd floor enclosed porch.

Thief was seen on security camera cutting the lock with an angle grinder and took the cut lock with the stolen bike.

Bike was locked up in front of the Logan Square Bowtruss. I came back in the morning and the bike was gone with the chain. No one reported seeing anything

The frame and back wheel of the bike were taken from the Loyola red line stop bike racks. The front wheel and lock were left intact on the rack. (I believe there are security cams everywhere in that red line stop)

Owner locked bike onto the iron fence where everybody locks their bikes while they shop at this Jewel. Was inside store 10 minutes. Came outside, and bike was gone along with its cable lock. Police report was filed at Evanston Police station within the hour.

Bike was locked with New U-Lock and cable through both wheels and frame to a porch/fence on the back of a residential building. Between 2-5am someone came onto the porch, kicked/broke out the slats in the fence where it was locked and left with the bike, still locked, and all its accessories. Woke up to find someone had broken into the garage and stolen bike.

Left bike sitting by garage door for one hour.
