Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was in an office building hallway- self locked with chain. Building accessed through keycard only. During business hours.

my home was broken into on the southside of chicago they stole my bikes and many more valuables from me and my family the bike was sitting in my room.

My home was broken into on the south side of chicago. they stole lots of famiily valubles including my road bike. the bike was just sitting in the livving room area.

Garage door was left open and someone snagged the bike. The picture included is of the same bike but slightly larger than the one stolen. Bike will respond to the name "Big Red" if called.

Entered locked storage room in the rear of my apartment building with key (no sign of forced entry). My bike was gone. I had had it locked (older u-lock w/round key) there during travel/the polar vortex for a month unfortunately, so I'm not sure exactly when it was taken.

When I tried to use bike to go to work, it wasn't there, there was only fresh tracks on a snow.

Bike was locked to the fence around our patio. The bar it was locked to was kicked out and broken to remove the bike along with the lock.

Garage was possibly broken into. Two bikes were stolen, one was recovered after I found the offender.

Back of building was broken into, thief entered residence and stole multiple bikes and gear. Track marks down back of alley away from home. In the Bucktown neighborhood.

Above time is when the bike was discovered stolen (actual date/time of theft unknown).

Bike was in buildings basement. We have had some issues with the gates for this area but ive always locked it and figured that it was a lesser known area of the building. bike was locked to a cable around a 4" drain pipe using a kryptonite u lock. Thief cut cable. I suspect this was planned as it was a clean cut and my bike was the only thing taken from the space. My thoughts are either it was someone in my building or someone who was aware of the gate situation and had been waiting for an opportunity to take something.

I'm very sure that I locked it to the bike rack, but the cable I used was somewhat old--though it should've locked the bike optimally. The only thing I can think of is that the lock's cable was cut and whoever took it, took it all with them. It was locked at the railing above the Midway Mart at the corner of South Campus 6031 S. Ellis Ave. I guess some distinguishing characteristics of the bike is that I've installed a flashing tail light under the seatpost, as well as a lock mount above the crankset. If stolen, those would probably not be removed/noticed.

The bike was in the locked basement of my 2 flat house. It was on a cycle trainer. Someone picked the lock or jimmied open my back door between 2:30am and 6am. I was sleeping right above where the bike was located in the basement, didn't hear anything.

When I left for class at 11:00 am, the bike was locked outside my building. When I returned from class at 1:00 pm, the bike was gone. Campus security are less than no help; won't even let me check security footage.

Garage door lock was forced. Bike was only item taken. Detached garage door found open in morning, light left on. Later realized catalytic converter cut from SUV in drive way. Well lit area on residential street. Junk bike found abandoned nearby. Police only took report on catalytic converter because phone officer couldn't figure out how to use her computer.

Locked bike up (U-lock) Division Blue Line Station during work. Returned to see both tires stolen (approx value $300). Asked the employees what to do, were very unhelpful in how to resolve. Not sure how this type of thing happens during the day when there is an employee on hand, but it did. There are cameras in the station but to my understanding these would not be used to try to identify any thieves. I called to file a police report but never heard anything back. I understand this was nearly two years ago but I just saw this site (as I mentioned the CTA personnel were no help) and figured I would at least add this so the statistic is there.

Bike was in my garage. After I left the garage door must of gotten obstructed by the snow when I closed it because when I got home the garage was open and the bike was gone.

Bike hangs in closed locked garage. We went out grocery shopping and when we came back it was gone. Nothing else was taken, including another bike hanging in the garage.

Bicycle was seen morning of Feb. 2, locked to the front fence/railing. Residtent/owner was inside all day working, shades were not drawn. When owner emerged the next morning, the railing support had been forcably removed and the bike was missing.
