Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Someone broke into the (locked) first floor bike locker of my apartment building, cut the lock of mine and at least one other bike, then ripped the entire rack from its concrete mooring and tried to slide off a U-lock bike, but failed at this endeavor. They also appear to have pissed on the floor, which is really gross. Reported to University of Chicago police and to landlord.

I was having drinks with friends in an apartment. My bike was parked across the street. Around 1am I heard something that sounded like a buzz saw across the street. By the time I checked outside, the bike was gone along with the lock.

Bike was stolen from my porch on the morning of Sunday September 15th. It was not locked and was located in a back stairwell. Whomever took the bike had to exit through our neighbors backyard.

The bike was locked up in a secure bike room in the basement of our condo. Someone had to break in the front door and then into the bike room to steal this. I last used the bike at about 3pm on 9/15 and noticed it was gone the morning of 9/17. But I just that someone else in our bldg had some stuff stolen in a storage unit adjacent to the bike room the night of 9/15 or the morning of 9/16 so I'm assuming my bike was taken at the same time (early on the 16th). There were other bikes in the room that didn't get taken so I guess I was the unlucky one here. We believe that the thief tried to come back last night because our door look to be jimmy'd with.

The bike was sitting in the yard behind a locked 6 ft fence and obstructed by bushes. Found missing the following day.

The bike was behind our locked gate, in the side passageway. I had left it there temporarily while I ran upstairs to give my daughter dinner after a trip to the beach. I presume the thief jumped the tall gate, grabbed the bike, and strolled out. (The gate is locked to the outside, but anybody inside the fence is free to leave.)

I had it locked inside my stairwell at my apartment from the front wheel to a slot in the outside wall. The stairwell landing was locked. Someone got in and removed the bike from the front tire.

I rode my bike to work and locked it to the bike rack on the south side of 10 S riverside plaza on monroe street at 7am in the morning. I returned at 4:30pm to find my bike missing. I'm assuming someone opened the lock and stole my bike :( since its an older bike i assume they wanted the new shimano pedals and tires.

The bike was well-locked and well-hidden; behind a car. Bike seat is always removed, so the bike will be missing its stock seat. Clip-ons for bike computer and front light should be visible, as well as the magnet-detector on the front wheel and fork.

Left bike locked outside overnight and forgot about it till the morning. When I returned the U-lock was cut in half (I'm guessing by a grinder of some sort) and the bike was gone.

Left it this morning at about 8am, was gone when I returned at 5:30pm. It appears that multiple bikes were stolen, since usually the racks are not as empty as they were today. The racks in front of the Metra station are on the sidewalk, so people driving down Fullerton had a clear view of the robbery. I had two locks on my bike; a "U" lock through the frame, front tire and rack, and a chain through the seat, rear tire, frame and rack.

Locked bike to back of car (frame to bike rack). Went to festival. Came back from festival. Individual who stole bike bundled the strap securing bike to frame under my windshield wiper. I called police, filed report.

The thief/s were somehow able to take off my front tire and maneuver around the lock and stole the frame and back tire. I obviously must not have secured the frame enough. However, it appears the bike next to mine was stolen by cutting a cable lock, so I'm guessing the thief/s would have just cut my cable lock anyway. The opinion of both the police officer I spoke with and a local bike owner is that the bike is probably now out of the neighborhood - like on the North Side, suburbs, etc. Note: the closest photo I was able to find was a picture of the male version of this bike being sold on Craigslist. My bike was locked to a bike rack where I often lock my bike. Someone came in the middle of the night and broke the padlock and stole my bike. This is the second incident in this area in the last month in this area (that I know about).

Bike was stolen from inside rear porch while I was home on second floor. Other items removed, but bike is needed to complete benefit ride for breast cancer in late October. REWARD OFFERED NO QUESTIONS!

The bike (my wife's) was left unattended for no longer than a minute in our gated and fenced in backyard while we prepped for a ride to the Botanical Gardens. My wife went back outside and yelled that her bike had been stolen. We ran to the alley (fence gate was open), and saw a person in a bright blue shirt riding off westbound (alley immediately north of Wilson, West of Western) less than a block away. I gave chase on foot while screaming at the top of my lungs, but could not gain on him, and he turned right (North) on Rockwell. I circled the area in my car for an hour, and then on my bike for another hour, talking with people out and about, and distributing my contact info. My wife posted signs around the neighborhood informing of the theft, and called the police. They would not create a report as we did not have the S/N available. I've spoken with a couple of local bike shops in person to notify them of the theft. Attached photo is not of the actual bike, but nearly identical.

I had locked my bike through the front wheel to the stand using OnGuard Lock... I also had a wire which surrounded the frame... When I came back in evening from work... The wire was cut and The lock was intact... I am still surprised how the thieve managed to take away the bicycle without breaking the lock.. :( I had parked it right in front of the union station... On Canal St... There are always a line of cabs there and there is constantly people moving around... I thought it was the safest place in downtown... What really hurts me is that I have just drove it for 20 odd days and all my hard earned money is gone... If you see any Trek 7000 with front wheel spokes tempered, then please let me know... There was no defect whatsoever.... There was also a bottle rack.. if that helps.. Dont know why these people steal someone'e else belongings :( :(

I have been biking to the Irving Park Metra to catch the train to work for the last month (previously I had taken the train from the Clybourn stop). I locked the bike to a rack on Avondale just across from the station at 7 am and returned for it at 8 pm. The bike was locked with a U-lock and a chain through the two wheels and the frame. Since the lock was missing as well, I am guessing it was either cut or popped in some way. I have not had a problem at this stop before, but the businesses on that stretch of Avondale are closed and there is not a lot of foot traffic unless a train is coming through. I don't have a photo of my bike, but it's not hard to notice because of the stickers, especially the Fender and Iggy Pop ones, which are hard to find.
