Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was locked up in my basement. I last used it on August 29th and when I went to do laundry the following Sunday, I noticed it had been stolen.

Bike was locked in a friend's basement over the summer. One of the roommates apparently left the basement door unlocked after doing laundry and the bike was stolen.

Our garage must have been left open around dusk and the bike was unlocked in the garage. We normally park our truck in the garage at night, but we were getting ready to go camping and our truck was in the drive as we loaded it for our trip or the other possibility was that it happened while my wife had the truck at her place of work. With the truck out of the garage this would have made it easier for the person to gain access to the bike. The bike was behind other bikes in the garage so the person specifically targeted the men's bike.

Someone got through my locked garage door and stole the bike which was not locked because I didn't think they could get at it through the locked garage. The seat is ripped, it's black and white "vintagey" looking.

I don't know exactly the date or time. It was the weekend of Aug 11-13. Market Days on Halsted was going on that weekend. I noticed it was gone that Monday or Tuesday. The lock was gone. It had been parked and locked around a no parking sign on my sidewalk outside my apartment building. I had just gotten it, so I don't have any pics.

I locked the bike up Friday night, went out, ran errands Saturday and when I came back over to my boyfriend's Saturday evening it was gone. :-(

The bike was locked in a storage locker in the basement of my building. The lock to the storage locker was busted off, and the bike was stolen. This happened sometime between mid-day Saturday September 1st and morning of Monday September 3rd.

I left the biked locked in my enclosed porch area with a locking gate. Since I share this accessway with my roommate and two neighbors I believe that one of them left the locking gate open and allowed entry of the person who took my bike. I do not believe either of my neighbors would have taken it and my roommate obviously has not. I don't know how the lock was defeated. I imagine it was cut and thrown away into any one of the numerous nearby alleyway trash basins. I am incredibly upset. Being stolen from is just about the worst feeling ever.

I locked the bike to a bike rack bolted to the ground in front of the LPAC. The rack was just to the right of the front door on Diversey (lots of light, people, the front desk, etc). There was a camera aimed on the bikes. I locked my cable bike lock (thicker) with a security rating of 4/5. I wrapped the lock around the rack and both tires and the frame. I locked the lock and went inside. It was around 7:15pm and were several other bikes there. When I came out of the gym the bike and lock were gone, no evidence of a cut lock. The bike is a women's frame, so it seems like who ever stole it was going to sell it. I also think that this is someone who feels comfortable stealing bikes in this area, as the lock had to have been cut in a very public area and in front of the front desk.

Four bikes were stolen from our garage: The Orbea Onix listed below, this Le Mond, a women's Fuji Finest, and a Specialized ladies hybrid. Our neighbors left the garage door open.

Four bikes were stolen from our garage at 956 N Wolcott on the morning of Thursday, 23 Aug, 2007.

My bike was parked inside my office building, and stolen at approximately 3:30p.m. on August 27, 2007. I believe it may have been taken out the back door, which opens to the alley between Wabash and Michigan.

I had my bike unlocked in my garage that was locked. I had not realized that the bike was unlocked usually i keep it locked w/ my roommates bike. Noticed that it was gone a few nights after i left it in there. However my roommates bike was still in there locked up. I believe my garage door may have been left open by one of my roommates because there was no way anyone could have broken into the garage.

Set the bike next to the rear deck (inside a fenced yard). Couldn't have been inside for more than 10 minutes and the bike was gone. Someone just walked through the gate to the backyard and took off with it.

Bike was cable locked around a wooden cross board of a wooden rail at the base of a stairwell in the backyard of the residence. Not visible from the street in the front. Only visible through narrow view between fence and garage in the back. Cross-board of railing was kicked out and bike and cable were stolen. Suspect that it was stolen by someone familiar with the area that had previously seen the bike locked there before, and/or a "garbage picker" that frequents that alley.

My brand new $500 dollar TREK bike was just stolen today, August 20th at 6:12am, at Museum Park Lofts II, located at 1305 S. Michigan Avenue. I noticed my bike was missing after work. So, I went to our condominium property manager and demanded to see the security video camera. We watched as the criminal entered the building at 6:07am and left at 6:12am w/ two bikes (one of them mine)... I filed a police report.

I locked my bike up to the rack in my apartment building's bike room on August 16th at 6 p.m. When I returned to get my bike at 7 p.m. on August 17th (roughly 24 hours later), the whole bike was gone. I had a Kryptonite U-Lock attached to the front wheel and frame, and a wire that went around the back wheel and attached to the front.

Bicycle was inside a locked porch on the second floor of an apartment building. Locked door downstairs was forced open, and bicycle was only item taken. Thief would have had to have entered from the front of the building, gone through the gangway, opened the door, come upstairs, stolen the bike and brought it back downstairs - no easy feat, considering how heavy the bicycle is with the rack, baskets, and fenders, the passage is fairly narrow, and there are a number of boxes on the porch. Also, from ground level, no one would know that this door leads up to the porch. It also stormed that night, which makes it an even stranger occurrence. I had been moving things in the porch until after 11:30pm the night before, and when I went to get the bike in the morning, it was gone, and the door to the porch had been left open.

So im on the bus(California northbound), when i left my house my bike was still on my back porch..A couple of stops after i get on this dude gets on with a bike on the bus.I didnt think anything of it until i start getting off, and i realize that that is my bike the guy put on the bus..So i get off and call 911 and the guy gets off a couple off stops after i do and hops on the other bus(Milwaukee southbound)..The cops come like 20 minutes later and they cant find him on the bus and i have to fill out a police report ..but no bike..he could have been on americas dumbest criminals if i would have realized that it was my bike he was putting on the bus.I did get a good description of the dude..if i ever see him im calling 911 on his ass

I left the bike in our gangway for "just a moment" -came back (less than one minute later) and it was gone. Neighbor saw the thief ride off and toss my helmet into the yard (recovered)
