Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I failed to lock the bike frame with my u-lock. I mistakenly only locked the front wheel (quick release) to the bike rack and the thief just took the frame and left the front wheel locked to the bike rack. THE SECURITY DESK IN THE CBOT BUILDING HAS VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THE THEFT. THE THIEF'S DESCRIPTION IS MALE, WHITE, ABOUT 5'7" DRESSED AS A BIKE MESSENGER WITH A BACKPACK. I can't believe this brand new bike rack for over like 60 bikes, was just installed recently and is targeted so often. After talking to security guards from across the street from where it was stolen, they've seen the activity and describe it as an organized operation. Unfortunately they didn't see anything suspicious on that day. Interestingly enough, just around the corner, 2 front wheels were stolen the same day my bike was.

Bike was unlocked in my condo building for a maximum of 24 hours.

Locked it to itself in backyard in Roscoe Village. Put it in a spot that would be out of view of the street or alley.

The frame was stolen and front wheel left with lock to metal gate.

I left my bike in front of Barn and company overnight. It was locked to a street sign that was uprooted to get at the bike

I either left the U lock like a bone head locked around the aerobars or the U lock was broken. I think the latter was the cause and I left the lock around the aerobars.

I always kept my bike in the locked garage behind my house. The neighbor who shares this garage with me left the garage door open and someone came in and stole the bike.

I locked my bike up upon returning home at around 10:30pm on Sep 24. I left the house the following morning at around 8:15am to find my bike gone.

I rode the bike to school and locked it up at 8:20 am. When I got out of class at 10:15 am, the bike was gone. The bike and lock were taken along with my white Specialized helmet that was locked up with the bike.

2010 Specialized Tricross was taken from my back yard at my residence, 1504 West Henderson Apt, 2F on August 21, 2013 between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

The bike was locked in a fenced off area. The gate was either left open or someone climbed the tall fence surrounding it.

Inside of 1316 maple my giant rock bike (back up after motobecane stolen downtown only 18 hours before) with new lights seat lock was dragged away likely by someone in the building because one cannot see the bike from outside building has 14 foot brick courtyard wall, lights, locked doors. At back of building are countless expensive bikes locked to chicken fence & no one steals those. I & person i know in the building searched the whole building it was no where to be found. tremendous 'twilight zone pain/trauma much expense in losing two bikes ive cycles thousands countries worth of cycling with- they are my cars, i don't drive. love this website very helpful- cathartic.. I dont know why but i feel something will come up..

Stolen from the front of Dominick's surrounded by surveillance on 9/22/2013 - at approximately 6:20 pm- wire lock clipped in broad daylight on busy intersection downtown Chicago. Used two years old, all original parts. Full police report made. Investigation ongoing.

Our four bikes were all locked to the bicycle rack at the Farm entrance of Lincoln Park Zoo. The lock was cut, the Giant bike was stolen, but the other three (two were more valuable) bikes remained. An older royal blue Giant bike was left unlocked laying in the bike race.

Turned my back for 3 min to put a friend in a cab and when I turned around........ gone.

I locked it to a fence in front of a building (426 surf) that said "do not lock bikes" only because there were 7 other bikes currently locked to this fence and the girl who's apartment it was said it was completely fine. None of the other bikes seemed to be stolen. I honestly think the thief might have seen the sign and thought: "this guy had it commin".
