Shining with a gorgeous yellow paintjob and the love of a girlfriend who really went beyond her means to give her boyfriend an amazing graduation present. 14 speed, frame mounted gearshifts. Not sure on the make of the rims but they were black along with the jet black dropdown handle bars. Its a pretty little black and yellow commuter that I loved for 6 weeks or so.

Sidewalk in front of an open business.
How was the bike locked?:
Only the frame was locked a solid object.
How long was the bike locked in this location?:
30-45 minutes
Incident Description:
I thought it would be reasonable to lock my bike in Uptown for a half hour or so while I went in to Carol's for a beer and a hotdog with some friends. (Clark street and one block south of Lawrence). I used the second best Kryptonite lock and locked the frame to a bolted rack and felt pretty safe at 8 o'clock on a tuesday night. When I went to walk my friend out of the place and say goodbye the lock was snipped so cleanly and it lay there on the ground like a nightmare next to his POS bike. And i mean snipped clean... no sawing as there was no melting... one try with the cutters as there were no marks other than the clean break. Its right next to a bustop and a bar were regulars smoke 3 cigs an hour for goodness sakes. It seems like it was caught on security tape... Anyone know if that makes a difference? Its a black and yellow beauty.

One bike had a u-lock locking a wheel to the frame -- it was taken down from the ceiling, but not stolen. My bike was hanging unprotected and was taken. The bike was basically without a flaw. I am still unsure how the thief got in the garage -- no visible sign of forced entry, and the person would have had to maneuver the bike between two large cars to get it out -- a very tight situation.

two hours from 2:30pm to 4:30pm
Incident Description:
Was my thief in a halloween costume? Or perhaps a Halloween ghost? I locked my bike in front of Chicago's second largest library figuring it would be safe with the constant car traffic and people that always sit in front of the library chilling out. Across the street in Welles Park is a group of older gentlemen who play bocce ball every weekend. When I left the library and saw my bike missing, the couple people sitting outside said they didn't steal it. Then I saw my lock sitting on the ground. Cut. Either with a bolt cutter or a hacksaw. Also, this happened on Halloween. In this neighborhood, all the kids do their trick or treating on Lincoln Avenue, so there were even more people walking around. How can someone steal a bicycle with all these witnesses? My only guess is some sort of Halloween ghost. All in all this is shaping up to be like a game of Clue. -- We know the location. The LIBRARY. -- We know the weapon. The BOLTCUTTERS (or hacksaw). -- We do not know the CRIMINAL. Who could have seen this? The pedestrians. The trick or treaters. The auto drivers. The library loungers. The bocce ball players. This is a Halloween mystery that will haunt me for ages.
