Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike rack was located on the side of the building, very close to main entrance. Many bikes are locked there continually. My husband's bike was locked on the side part of the rack, and thief sawed through the rack itself, and lifted the bike and lock off. Also stolen at the same time was a seatpost/seat from my bike, locked next to his, but on the main part of the rack - and it is not quick release. This thief travels with tools (saw and allen wrenches). After school let out (June 11) we counted 5 bikes stolen from this same rack over a period of 2-3 weeks, with similar rack-cutting or lock cable-cutting incidents. So far, no U-locks have been cut that we can see.

My bike was properly locked (ie: front tire and frame lockee, with a new U lock, to a signpost), and it was still stolen! The sign post did not have bolts that could have been removed, so it seems that the lock must have been broken/ picked/ cut through somehow.

Parked bike locked to bike rack on N Broadway. Both lock and bike missing. All other bikes on rack were still there upon my return, although mine was obviously the newest. Only 3 weeks old.

10 minutes, locked on my wooden porch, stepped in to go to the bathroom, stepped out and the porch had been taken apart and ole blue is gone.

Left my bike Kryptonite locked in front of Fountain Square office building (where Evanston Critical Mass meets). Returned 3.5 days later, bike was gone.

Bicycle was stolen from our locked bike room.

I went to see Ratatoulle and when the movie was over, the bike was gone. Crowded sidewalk with lots of other bikes, but i used a weak lock against my better judgement.

We parked the bikes around a tree at the Taste of Chicago with bike rakes near but were full. We came back from enjoying ourselves and the cable lock was cut (still there) with a beer cup on it. My husband's Mongoose was still there. I asked everybody around if they saw anything, along with about 5 Cops standing 50 yards away! They wouldn't even walk over to help me. Of course, nobody saw it! The bike will probably be at the Flea Market on Sunday morning. I cried and screamed that I hate Chicago!!!!How can somebody live with themselves?

Our family's four bikes were stolen from the rack on our car on the morning of 28 July 2007 from the Ramada Hyde Park carpark early in the morning on 28 June 2007.

My bike was locked up right outside the Chicago Cultural Center on one of the busiest Saturdays during the year, during the Taste. It's very weird that someone could steal a bike with thousands of people walking around but here I am, without a bike. I think someone probably just broke the lock and made off with the bike. I still have my helmet though, i hope they crash.

Bike was locked to parking meter during Farmer's Market. Likely stolen after market closed between 3 and 4 pm on Sunday, July 1, 2007. Cable cut and second bike left at scene.

The bike was stolen between 10am and 2pm from the UIC medical district campus.

Had dinner came out and the lock was there and my bike was gone, because I think I locked my U-Lock through the front wheel and the front tire spoke so all they had to do was take off the front tire and slip the U lock to the bottom of the post, i'm an idiot.

Bike was in the causeway/walkway of my house behind a gate, for approximately 10 minutes while I was clearing out the flooded basement. It was unlocked only because I was a few yards away, in and out of the backyard...NEVER AGAIN. The thief entered, and rode away, south on Damen. Witness described thief as white/hispanic male, at least 5'9+, dark hair, wearing white tanktop, and intoxicated. Thanks for reading...

Someone took it from my CLOSED garage. I lost this and a road bike and a Burley Trailer! Losing my road bike, I feel like a lost a loved-one.

Someone forced open the garage door and lifted both bikes. Pretty gutsy too, considering there is a ramp down to the garage which is in the moddle of the building!

Went to visit my new condo under contstruction and meet with the builders. I locked the bike using a cable lock through the front wheel and frame and around the light pole in front of the development, additionaly i had a U lock through the back wheel and frame. After the meeting I went to visit some friends to wait out the rain. Ended up running some errands and leaving the bike overnight. When I returned the following morning 27 June 07, the bike and locks were missing.

It was actually 2 bikes that were cable locked together, through the frames and front wheels to a bike rack in front of the AMC Movie Theatres on Sunday June 10th, and it happened between 11am and 1pm. The other bike was a women's Trek, also grey.

Bike was locked to back stairs of residence. Another residence left the autolocked gate that limits access to the back stairs to residents only unlocked. Back stairs of this building faces back alley.
