Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Locked gate on backyard was spread apart, unlocked garage door was opened and two bikes were stolen.

Bike was stolen from back porch of apartment. It was set there temporarily while moving.

THE BIKE WAS STOLEN FROM A PUBLIC STORAGE FACILITY. THE LOCK WAS PICKED, THE BIKE WAS STOLEN AND THE LOCK WAS REPLACED ON THE UNIT.

The bike was locked inside a storage unit at Public Storage at 1129 N Wells, Chicago 60610. The lock on the unit was picked. Public Storage told me on October 7th, 2012 (the day of the report) that they arrested someone last week for picking locks and stealing property.

I had not ridden my bike in a week because I hurt my ankle. I left my bike on my third floor back porch unlocked. I do not use the back porch often, so I do not know exactly when it was taken. The only way to get into the back yard, except for the other residents of the three flat apartment, and up the three flights of stairs is through a gate in front of the house.

The things that were stolen have specific features. Stock rims, so Alex G2000. The stickers were removed from the rim. Pieces of black reflective tape on the rim, with Maxxis re-fuse tires (can't remember the size). Flip-flop hub. The fork was stolen, and has a couple of pieces of vertical reflective tape on it that are almost invisible without close inspection. Both the fork and wheel are in average condition.

I locked my bike up at the Clybourn Metra in the morning. Came back after work and my U-lock had been cut straight through with a tool.

There is a bicycle storage room inside the building, accessible through the garage. Sometimes the back door is open, so thief must have walked in that way. The bike was locked to the bike rack with a heavy-duty cable lock, and the thief actually removed one of the links on the bike rack to take the bike. So I'm certain they didn't defeat the lock, but rather destroyed a portion of the rack.

Noticed my bike wasn't on the rack. Fund just the cut lock on the ground. My bike is a lady's GIANT brand. Blue and white. NEW! Has a spedomoeter and bottle holder.

While we were at work, someone broke into our house and stole the bike along with a couple of other items.

This bike was U-locked to itself in the lobby area of hi-fi fitness center on Chicago and Orleans.

We forgot to bring the bike up to our apartment and left it out late on Tuesday night... there was no sign of it the next morning. It had been lock with a heavy duty chain to a thick street light and both the bike and lock were gone early the morning of October 3rd. Thanks for reading!

My bike was stolen from in front of the Journalism Department building in the South Loop (33 e Congress). There was a security guard in the building.

My bike was on a rack in a closed garage. There are many other bikes and other people's things in the garage but to the best of our knowledge only my bike was stolen. Nobody is fessing up to leaving the garage unlocked either but at some point between 8pm on sep 25th and 7:30pm on sep 26th 2012 the bike was taken.

I think the bike was locked, but improperly. It was dark and raining and the bike may have been locked around the seat post rather than the frame. Again, it was dark and the street light was a good 100 feet away from the bike rack. That said, with so little foot traffic in front of this gym I believe someone is targeting the bikes in this area knowing that the classes are for an hour—meaning that very few people will be outside for stretches of time. The is the second bike I have had stolen in Chicago. Oddly enough, they both happened while at the gym.

I always locked my bike with both a cable lock and a U-lock, but tonight one of my friends forgot his lock. So we locked 3 bikes together to a bike rack with 2 cable locks and 2 U-locks. I was at Benchmark just south of North Ave/ Wells St, and in the duration I was at Benchmark, which was approximately 2 hours, the 2 cable locks were cut, and 2 of the 3 bikes that were "locked up" were stolen.

I was waiting for a package at FedEx thinking it was going to be a quick transaction. Had it outside of the store, my back was turned when someone decided to steal my bike.
