Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The bike was left locked to a street sign on a busy residential street overnight. It was missing with the lock in the morning.

The bike was secured inside a locked steel wire mesh storage cage in the basement of 770 Lofts Condos, 770 W. Gladys Ave., Chicago, IL. The thief cut the lock hasp on the door, not the pad lock securing it, and removed the bike. The theft took place between 11/2/2010 and 12/28/2010.

The bike is very unique. I think someone probably stole it very early in the morning. It was a Saturday night on a college campus, so people are walking around pretty late. Please let me know if you see/find it.

I went to work without my house (and bike) keys as there were people at home, so I could not use the U-lock. I took a silly risk with the combo cable lock only and paid the price. New bike now goes indoors at work has two U-locks when elsewhere.

The bike was inside my garage and stolen in the span of 30 minutes while the garage door was left open by my wife. I suspect the pickup trucks that regularly scour the backstreets for trash they can cash, but I have no evidence.

I biked to meet friends for dinner in Wrigleyville and u-locked up to a city sign pole that was bolted to a base (around 8 pm 12/29) in front of Chen's Chinese and Sushi. My friends and I then cabbed it the rest of the night and I decided I'd pick up my bike the next day. The following day, after I got off work, I went to pick it up and it was gone (around 4 pm 12/30). I filed a police report, posted on facebook, circulated an email, and posted to the chain link. Later on, I went back to the scene and saw that the pole I locked to was de-bolted, and saw the bolts lying in the gutter. I called city services to rebolt the pole and have now scene several unbolted poles throughout the city. Lesson learned.

My garage door apparently did not seat properly and opened at some point overnight. Someone walked into the garage and took the bike.

Bike was in basement storage unit of 3-flat. I last rode it in August. I last saw it there in September or October. I ride another bike daily and was not paying attention to this bike; I just assumed it was where I left it. Around December 3, 2010, I went down to get the bike and it was gone. My neighbor informed me that someone who had stayed with him had stolen some of his things and pawned them; it's likely the same thing happened to my bike. Therefore, I expect this bike is in or has been in a pawn shop on Lawrence near Ashland, or somewhere in that area.

Pedicab disappeared overnight. Attempted theft of a second pedicab failed because of high security chain and small u-lock. Bike had a flat tire and derailleur was working irregularly.

Locked my bike at the law school like I do when it's too sloppy to drag it across the carpet in the building. Came outside and it was gone. Found a piece of the U-lock, which was cut with an angle grinder. Will post a picture and serial number when I get home.

Truck or van cruised down Lincoln Avenue, cut locks, and loaded other bikes. Mine and a co-workers were stolen at the same time. I had biked to work and parked in same location daily for 10+ years!

Bike was secured to light pole outside of Town Hall Pub on Halsted on Friday, December 10. No one saw/heard anything.

Bike was locked to rack on Rockwell right outside the yoga studio. Lock was probably cut and removed.

I put the bike in the locked bike room (only a few people have the key to it) of my locked apartment building a bit before 7pm, and noticed it missing (along with several other bikes) around 2:30am.
