Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Side door on garage was broken and blown in by wind. Thief walked into garage, ripped off wooden railing that bike was locked to, opened main garage door and rode off on bike. Nothing else in garage was taken, including another bike that was not locked up (but a cheaper model)

I just got off work around 12:15 am on Saturday night the 19th (morning of Sunday the 20th, by the clock). I parked my bike in front of a friend's apartment, planning to hang out for just a little bit. I locked the bike with my heavy duty link chain, closed with a small U-lock, both the front wheel and the frame. The pole was in plain sight of both Waveland and Damen, just about 10 feet in from the corner. At around 12:45, my friend's girlfriend came upstairs, and I lent her some money to pay back a friend outside the building. At around 1:05, I left the apartment, and found my lock on the ground, with one of the chain links cut twice, to make a gap large enough to slide off. They'd tried to cut another link, but failed. I immediately filed a police report (I have the number written down elsewhere, so I will post it as soon as I get back to it). Given the tight window, the bike must have been stolen either between 12:15 and 12:43, or between 12:48 and 1:05, since my friend was outside for a few minutes between 12:43 and 12:48. Neighbor left garage door open very early in the morning and someone stole my bike. This was a long time ago (over a year), but since I just found out about this registry, I thought I'd give it a try since I loved that bike. Any info would be helpful. THanks!

Locked the bike to a sign with an Abus heavy duty chain. Nothing was left when I came out except half a chain link. Appears to have been done with bolt cutters.

The sign post I attached my bike to was buried in the ground. The post was easily lifted and bike and U-lock were removed together. Someone may have walked off with the bike, but it makes more sense that they drove up in a car. The people who did this likely steal bikes from the location regularly because they new to slide the pole out and I assume did so with little hesitation. There is a chance that the person simply walked out of the park to steal the bike as well.

I locked my bike up outside the bike shop, Cycle Smithy's on N. Clark and when I returned in the morning the bike was gone. Rear wheel was U-locked to bike rack. The bike had theft proof axles.

I left the bicycle in the sideway near my house while I ran inside to open the garage door, and when I made my way back to it, the bike was gone. A neighbor says that he saw a young black male and a young white male standing by the bike before it disappeared.

Rode to Quad's Gym for my martial arts class. Came back outside 1.5 hours later and the bike was gone. No trace left behind.

Bike was locked to city bike rack. While in a store on Roosevelt, I came out to find the bike missing. Nothing there: no lock parts, no bike parts. Presumably, the cable lock was cut.

The bike was inside my garage in Wrigleyville. The garage door was closed and the entrance door was locked. Someone had to of broken in the entrance door and taken the bike. The bike was the only thing missing from the garage so I feel like it would have had to be somebody who knew the bike was in there.

I had it locked to a parking sign. When I returned, the bike was gone, but the Kryptonite U lock was relocked to the pole. The thief would have to have had a device to open, take the bike and then re-lock the lock to the pole as the lock can only be locked using the key. It happened on Lake Shore Drive on a Saturday with good weather. Many people were walking around so to take the bike they would have had to unlock it and look like it was theirs. If they had cut the lock, people would have noticed.

I'm stupid and left it unlocked for a minute.

The bike was taken out of my garage in my condo building. We have security cameras the the building management said they would review. They knocked my bike rack off the wall and slid my locked bike (newer u-lock w/flat key) off of it.

They took my beloved bike. I love that bike. They cut my white helmet off the U-lock with a knife through the chin strap, too. They left the lock, I don't know why. I wish I had a picture of it, but I don't. I'm filing the police report today. I just don't know how it happened -- that is such a heavy traffic area. I park my bike there a lot and maybe they knew I'd be gone for sure for a couple hours in the yoga studio upstairs from the LensCrafters... I want to hit someone. Thanks for your help.

I saw my bike at noon before class, I came out at 2:00 to see the u-lock in tact on the bike rack.

I left my bike in the foyer of my sister's apartment building at 1628 N. Humboldt Blvd (Sacramento), north of North Ave. The front door automatically locks when closed, so the theft probably occurred from inside the building. The bike was in the foyer from about 7:30, and was gone by 8pm.

This bike had been stored under the stairs of the basement/garage level of a secured condo building, next to the common area storage closets. The thief would have to get through a secured garage and locked door to the building, or have resident access to the stairwell. The bike was last seen on the morning of Nov. 1, 2011.

The bike was stolen sometime between Nov. 1 - Nov. 12. It was in a secured building under the stairwell. It may have been stolen by a resident or visitor or other outsider. They would have to go through the security code of the garage, and locked door to the stairwell. It was stored with two other bikes which were also stolen (a green KHS commuter bike and purple girls bike). The helmets and u-locks were left behind.

Pretty sure the street sign pole was not secured to the mount and it was lifted up and the bike was removed from it with the lock still on it. There was another bike locked to the same pole when I locked mine up. This morning that bike was still there (it wasn't a bike worth stealing) with the lock on the bike, but the lock was no longer on the pole.

Bike had been locked to the inside of the fence (which is at least 7ft. tall) for a year plus. Heard a strange noise last night around 11:30 from outside or not sure, then today (11/14/11) noticed bike was gone with lock and cable left on the ground.
