Incident Description:
I helped a friend paint her new apartment today at Niche 905. At 9:30am I locked my bike up at the corner of N Orleans St
and W Walton St, immediately in front of Movement Physical Therapy, which is on the first floor of Niche 905.
Midway through the day, I decided to bring my bicycle upstairs to my friend's apartment because I felt like keeping it locked
outside was unsafe. The front door person yelled at us for coming through the front door instead of the backdoor. We didn't
know this policy since my friend moved in today.
Later, I went to buy an additional paintbrush from Ace Hardware. I took my bicycle and went out the freight elevator back door
entrance. When I returned to the building, I kept my bike locked up outside again given the front door person's earlier
incident. This was 1:00pm on Thursday, July 1st, and the last time I saw my bicycle.
At 3:00pm, we were done painting and decided to leave the building. We went outside and my bike was missing. My bike lock
was cut with boltcutters, and the lock remained on the floor.
We noticed a camera right above the bike area, so we went inside to talk to building management. Someone else was
working the front door, and stated that the camera's mysteriously went off about 45 minutes ago.
That was suspiciously the exact same time that my bike was stolen.
The bike in question is a black Specialized brand road bike. It's retail value is between $600-700.
