Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

It was parked directly in front of the IIT Kent Law School on W. Adams Street downtown. This is a high-traffic area which made it unusual that thieves are so brazen to steal it in broad daylight. There are always plenty of bikes parked there, however thinking back, mine had the weakest lock. The bicycle was also probably targeted as it is an electric bike. However, the battery and charging system was in with me in my office at the time of theft.

My bike was locked when I went into work. After 7 or 8 hours in the office I returned to an empty bike rack.

The pole it was locked to was pulled out of the ground and the bike with U-lock was removed. Another bike was locked to this pole and also went missing.

Bike locked to street sign on corner of N Lincoln Park West and Wisconsin (on N Lincoln Park West). Street sign was removed from ground & lying on ground when bike was discovered missing. Another older Schwinn bike was locked to street sign, but not stolen. Bike was locked with Ulock with flat key through frame. Both lock and bike were missing.

My bike was locked to itself in the courtyard of my apartment complex. The front and rear gates of the courtyard are locked. Earlier that day there were maintenance technicians doing work around the complex and may have propped the gates open. It would've required the person to carry my bike out of the residence.

Asshole took my precious bike and left the cut evidence to hurt my feelings even further.

Bike was U-locked to itself on my 2nd floor porch, I put it there in the morning before going to school, I came from school and the bike was already gone, all the doors to the porch were locked too.

My bike was inside a 4-car garage next to another bike. I did not lock it b/c I thought the garage was a secure place. I'm guessing a resident in my building accidentally left the garage door open, unless someone managed to break into the garage.

I U-locked my bike to a street sign that had one other, crusty old bike locked to it. I didn't realize that the sign was missing from the post. Someone just lifted my bike and the U-lock right over the top of the pole. Bastards.

Bike was secured using heavy thick Kryptonite lock and stored inside storage locker inside basement of building (storage room). Locker was also secured with masterlock. Masterlock cut with buildings own bolt cutters as they were found stripped. Management denied this but it was obvious they were being used by people or 'friends' of people that live in the building. Discovered many other bike thefts there later on, do not store your bike there or live in this building.

Someone smashed the glass on the front door of my apartment building, went into the basement of the building and stole my 56cm Kona Paddy Wagon.

Owners of Oracle Theater at 3809 N. Broadway allowed storage of bicycle in their basement - overnight, as a practicing theater actor accepted a ride via car to his second practice destination. Managing Director, Ben, inquired about whose bike was being left behind and the situation was explained to him. He implicitly condoned and allowed the storage. This was around 10PM on October 13th. When bike was to be picked up circa 6PM the following day, it was missing. No one at the theater can explain how it disappeared, nor who took it. The theater is a private, non-profit entity that does not dispute the facts - but is doing nothing to resolve the situation. This has been pushed to the Executive Director, who insisted the Theater's insurance policy barely covers their own equipment - much less the equipment of others. They also allege that a waiver was signed by the LLC that was performing that night, but will not provide the waiver. The LLC from that night insists that they never signed anything. The bicycle is appraised at $1,050 and is still under warranty. No lock was used, for there was no reason to believe the venue to be unsafe. Only persons with keys have access to the Theater. The bicycle was equipped with a brown Brooks saddle and brown handlebars.

Was stolen from underneath our back porch of an apartment building 3 stories high. Bike was hidden from view of alley underneath wooden staircase and locked to large post of staircase. There is a locked gate to get into the area with the bike also.
