Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

I have no idea what happened. I have been locking my bike in this location for over a year and thought my lock was secure. When I came out of work one day, my bike was just gone.

Bike stolen from my front porch. They must have climbed my locked front fence and thrown it over somehow.

stolen from 232 s. clark in the loop in front of the bank of america building. Security tape is currently being reviewed by building security. Stolen in the middle of a rain storm so im sure no one was paying any attention

We kept the bike in the small courtyard between the coach house and the main house, under the steps. I know we were silly not to lock it. There are a lot of vagrants in the area and we think one of them might have taken it for scrap.

Bike was locked about noon and discovered missing at 2:15 PM

A visitor to the Working Bikes warehouse left his bike just inside the closed door, the bike was stolen whilst he was upstairs. I am filing this report for him as he hasn't done one, by the looks of it, and may not be aware of this registry? We have his name and 'phone-number at Working Bikes. Update following Weds 11/29 from WBC founder: Friends, On Saturday a bike was stolen from a customer inside the hallway of our Western Warehouse. The police were summoned. This morning when we arrived the bike was in front of the western Store under a tarp. It was locked with an expensive cable. The key to the cable and a penciled note of appology was attached. We called the owner and the police to issue a found report. Perhaps a reading of Crime and Punishment is called for.

Went into Bally's at Century City Mall on Clark. Came out and Bike was no longer on the rack.

Incident just occurred in the southwest lower staircases of 6616 N. Ashland, off the back alleyway. Two bicycles were secured by three separate locks attached to the wood beams of the southwest backstairs. I only happen to notice two of my tires, still locked together, laid on the pile of wood planks. Upon further inspection I found that one of the bicycle frames had been stolen, while the other was on the concrete landing of the building next to ours. The thief(s) were able to remove the bikes by cutting through the master wire lock which attached the bikes to the pole. They were unable to remove the two kryptonite locks which connected the bikes by wheels and the frame of the remaining bike. I can only guess that they were interrupted, or I would be writing you about the theft of both my bikes. I'm trying to be as descriptive as possible so that others can benefit from our loss. Other bikes are also locked up in same area. Just in case, the stolen item is a blue "Specialized' mountain bike with only the handlebars, seat and frame remaining. Someone attempted to steal my bike off a metal pole and my ULock held and the person managed to damage the bike. I had the bike fixed and the ULock wouldn't stay closed so I locked my bike with my roommate's bike on our back wooden deck. The person who stole my bike took my roommate's bike as well, and did so by removing the wood piece to which the bikes were locked. This occurred in July 2004, I thought I would list it anyway. Found two bikes, U-locked together in my parking space in an alley (between Sheridan Road and Kenmore). Bikes may have been stolen from businesses or residence in Buena Park area. I have a picture on my cell phone, not downloaded to CPU yet.

My bike was stolen off of the stairway on the back porch of my apartment. Someone broke the wood post off of my stairway in the back of my apartment to take my bike.

I think some one cut the lock or lifted the pole the bike was locked to. A month later I noticed a new bolt through the bottom of the sign. When the incident happened, I didn't know people removed the bolts from the bottom of street signs.

The bicycle had been customarily left either unlocked or locked to itself and leaned up against the back porch of my building. It was not visible from the street or alley behind the building. someone must for some obscure reason have gone around the side of the building and noticed it unlocked. it was missing when I went to look for it in the morning.

Submitted to old site: Stolen from basement storage locker of north side of large apartment bldg at 4633 N. Damen. Date stolen: As mentioned above, I'm not sure which day it was stolen (as I don't go into the basement every day), but I know it was between late Saturday afternoon, 10/7 and about 4pm the afternoon of Saturday, 10/14. Bike was locked inside a padlocked storage unit, which was inside a locked (with key) common area (i.e. combination laundry room/storage area). Padlock was either hack-sawed or snapped off. (my guess is the former). This bike (and one other) have been locked up in the same storage space with no problems for 2.5 years.

Submitted to old site: What was the bike locked to: a tree How was the bike locked: with a cable lock around both bikes and around the tree we spoke to two witnesses who saw the bike being taken by two African-American males. We know the bikes were ours because one witness said the chain popped off as they were riding away. The witnesses said the males went north from the beach on Lakeshore trail
