Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was locked inside building garage to a wall mounted bike rack. Wire was cut from lock.

Bike was stolen from a common bike storage area which has approximately 50 bikes. Many are not locked at all. My bike was among the most valuable. Bike was locked by wrapping a cable around a bike rack and the frame of the bike and then securing with a combination padlock. No one besides me knew the combination. Padlock is missing along with bike. Cable was lying on the ground, uncut, uncompromised. Theft occurred sometime between Tuesday April 28th 11:00pm and Saturday May 2nd 11:00am.

Went into store for no more than 20 minutes. BIke was locked to another bike and a tree through each frame and wheel.

We went into store for maybe 15-20 minutes when we came out the lock had been cut and no one around us had seen anything.

I was at the gym no more than one hour. The bike was locked in front of the Jimmy John's on Clark Street near Diversey at the end of a bike rack. It was the early afternoon on a Thursday (April 29). None of the nearby businesses have outside facing cameras.

The bike was locked outside the Lyric Opera building during work. To make room for additional bikes on the rack, I had locked only the front of the bike. I think they were able to remove the tire, shimmy off the lock and replace the tire. Apparently, there has been a strong increase in stolen bikes from this location.

Bike was locked to gate in locked courtyard at approximately 8:00pm on Thursday, April 30. Discovered missing at approximately 5:45am on Friday, May 1. U-lock was left intact hanging on gate. Door to courtyard was propped open.

The bike was in the entryway to my apartment building, a large building that looks like a single family home near Montrose and California. I left it there around 5 PM on Wednesday April 29, after returning from a meeting. I was in and out of the apartment later that evening, as were my roommates, but I mostly went up the back stairs, so would not have passed through the front entry area. I always lock my bike, but recently I've been leaving it in the entryway unlocked because there is nothing to lock it to; a lot of stuff is in the way. The building is in a safe, residential area, and the entryway is hardly visible from the street. It is very surprising to me that someone would have come in and taken it, and I say that as someone who has had several bikes stolen in the past and expects the worst. I do not know whether the bike was taken last night or this morning (4/30), but I am sure it was taken between 5 PM last evening and 12 noon today. The maintenance person for the building, who is in and out a lot doing work on a ground-floor unit, is pretty sure he saw the bike at 8:30 AM, but my roommates do not remember seeing it at 9 PM last night, so there is some conflicting information.

On April 24th, the property manager for my apartment forwarded me an email from the condo association telling me that all the items in the storage area need to be removed by April 30th because the condo association was renovating the storage unit. On April 27th at about 11:30 PM, I went downstairs to the storage unit to remove my belongings and found that the door had been removed and replaced with a new door with no lock. I opened the door and found that my bike had been stolen.

Locked my bike outside of Harold Washington College on State & Lake shortly before 4pm. Sometime between 4pm and 8:45pm the bike was stolen. The lock (a Kryptonite u-lock) was opened, the bike was taken, and the lock was re-locked to the bike rack. The thief also cut all the straps on my yellow Bern baker helmet. The thief left my lock and helmet on the sidewalk but got away with the bike. I will not press charges as long as the bike is returned to me.

Bike was in the back porch, didn't lock it bc the gate is typically locked but someone left it open and the bike was stolen. I would've locked it up if it was worth anything but I was going to give it away to a friend anyways in a few days.

I hired movers. The mover took the bike from my apartment and set it by or in the truck and left the truck open. The bike was then stolen.

Bike was locked to the porch railing near the garden level apartment building entrance. Bike was there when I left for work at 8:45. When I returned at 6 pm, the bike was gone and the cut lock was on the ground.

Bicycle was parked in a garden level porch out of clear view. It was discovered missing at 08:00 Monday, April 27, 2015. The cable lock was missing. Another older mountain bike with a cable locked to itself was not taken. Last ridden April 23, 2015. It may have been missing on Saturday April 25, or Sunday April 26.

The bike was stored in our garage. The thief climbed over our security fence, kicked open the garage door and stole the bike. The bike was hanging on the wall near the entry door. The bike was the only item taken.
