Single speed drive train with old, greasy cogs but a new chain. Aero-brake levers with the left plastic insert missing, the right plastic insert cracked. The most distinguishing feature is the remains of a sticker on the top tube that says "Ruta 40, Sosneados 3000 km" which was obtained during a bike tour across Argentina. I have also replaced the standard clipless pedals with TruVativ downhill cycling platforms (very wide pedals, aluminum, with blunt studs for grip.) The AZtec brake pads are also very worn, due to be replaced. There is also one one missing chain ring bolt, and a mis-sized carriage bolt in the rear-left brazed-on rack fixture. The saddle vinyl is ripped in places with the foam showing through. The handlebar caps are missing and the bar-tape is just starting to unwind. There is a black "frog"-style light wrapped around the handlebar. The fork is not original: I replaced the standard Cross-Check fork with a black Long Haul Trucker fork, which has multiple brazed-on fittings for a rack, as well as a threaded hole through the middle of each leg of the fork.

Bike was stolen sometime between Sunday night and Tuesday morning. It was locked in the bicycle storage area in the lobby of my apartment building. The door to this lobby did not appear to be forced or damaged in any way. I came down this morning (Tuesday, June 25th, 7:30am)to bike to work and found that my lock had been cut. It appears to have been cut with a saw rather than a bolt cutter, as the wires of the steel cable are frayed. I think, though I can't be sure, that my bike was the only one stolen, which is odd because it was probably the one with the fewest components.

I stopped to grab a late night dinner at the McDonalds near Western and Milwuakee. There was group of what seemed to be transient enjoying their meal and I poilitel engaged in conversation with them. As I moved to order my food they politely offered to watch my bike..I to my demise agreed that that would be an excellent idea. I then had a brief conversation with McDonalds about the lack of sanitary conditions for food consumption and as I ended the conversation noticed my bike had been filched.

This was a 26inch, 21 speed monoshock (shock absorption under the seat) mountain bike. It was blue and had rust on it. I can't remember the name on the side because I literally had the bike for less than 24 hours before it was stolen. It was a used bike, and had been used for a few years by my mother. The seat was not original to the bike. It was a special large black Schwinn seat. The handle bars had special hand guards on the side to protect hands from trees, etc. While riding. There was also a small black & blue Velcro bag on the front. It had two zipper pockets. It also had a water bottle holder. The back break had some issues and didn't work all the way.

Incident Description: 
I believe that someone used bolt cutters to cut the lock and stole my bike. I believe it to be an inside job because whoever stole it had to have a key to get into that area. According to my building engineer this is the 6th bike stolen this month and they never told us that there were recent thefts.

In order to move some items around in my apartment without my bike getting in the way, I locked outdoors. In haste, I only locked the seat post (only removable with an allen wrench) to the inside of my fence. I live 30 yards from Wrigley Field, it was broad daylight, and a game was going on, which means lots of foot traffic in the area. I thought that there was no way someone would fuss with removing a seat post with an allen wrench in broad daylight with that much activity going on around my building.

Sometimes the outside locked door doesn't latch all the way, so it is possible that someone entered from outside. I think it is more likely, however, that someone in my building had a party and it was nabbed as someone left the building.

Roommate, [deleted by admin], falsely accused me (owner of the bike) that I was going into her room and taken things. This was not true as I had no reason to go into her room and was not able to because it was locked. As a result, out I spite, she removed my bike from the locked storage area (which only other roommates can access) and also some other things which were in the kitchen. This bike may have been thrown out into the street were someone found it.

The bicycle consists of a red De Bernardi frame, Sugino 75 crankset, nitto handlebars w/o bartape,black tektro front brake w/ black tektro brake lever, black weinmann dp18 rear wheel, generic black front wheel with origin8 hubs, generic black saddle. The frame is the most obvious feature of this bike because you don't see a lot of De Bernardi bikes in Chicago. Dent in the top tube and paint rubbing off on the downtube. Small circle on front of frame under the headset where the paint has rubbed off from the brake cable.

The wire for the front derailleur had snapped and disconnected from the left shifter and I had yet to fix it.

Two thieves forced entry into a locked storage facility and stole multiple bike over the course of several hours. Multiple wheels were also stolen, and it appears that there may have been some mismatched wheel/bike combinations. It is possible that the 26" wheeled bonita could have a 29" mountain bike front wheel. The thieves were arrested and charged. The bikes remain missing.
