Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was stashed in front east lobby of Jewel Food Store at 4660 W. Irving Park Rd., while owner did 15-20 minutes of shopping, and its rear basked contained a bag full of groceries newly purchased from a different store, tied down with red, hooked, bungie cords. Owner had been doing this a couple of times a week for some seven years without incident, until today. The bike was gone when the owner finished shopping and entered the lobby. When I reported the theft to the store, the customer service representative called the police, handed me the telephone receiver, and I tele-filed a police report. I also spoke two assistant managers later today, but no one mentioned a word about the existence of video recordings, which surely exist. I just hope that they won't be erased.

Bike was in locked and dead-bolted back storage area. Neighbor has large rotating number of bikes and bike parts. Probably 20-30 different bikes in past few months.

The side door to my garage was pried open sometime between noon on 4/22/18 and 7:30am on 4/25/18. Bike was removed through the side door. Prior to the incident, the bike had only been taken in and out of the garage three times, and none of those times was there anyone else in the alley.

Theif used a crowbar to crack frame on the garage door to gain access.

Rode bike to work and locked bike at bike rack outside of Cancer Center. When I was leaving work, the bike was gone along with lock.

Came home from work to find bike was missing, along with wooden railing that it was locked to.

Bike was in a closed garage that was broken into. Only the bike was missing.

Admin note-- informed 1/2022 that in 11/2021 this bike was purchased via Facebook Marketplace. The buyer later found this listing and contacted us. The buyer had tried to contact the original victim, who reportedly has since left the country and had no interest in receiving his bike back.

I came home to pull into my garage, saw the overhead door was open. filed a police report that mentioned such stolen items

I cam home and my bike was missing from the basement.

Locked bike to rack Saturday April 14th 2018 around 12-1pm. Discovered bike missing Monday April 16th at 9:30am. U-Lock was cut and left at the rack.

I work in a large business building at 100 S Wacker Dr, downtown Chicago. I rode my bike to work at around 9AM, locked it with about 4 others to stationary bike rack that is between the building and the river, and REALLY close to the bridge on Monroe St. A patron at the bar "South Branch Tavern and Grill" saw it happening, took a photo of the perpetrator leaving with the bike, but didn't do anything else besides sharing the photo with the bar manager.

It likely got stolen between 10 pm April 13th and 1 am April 14th. It was stolen next to Kimbark Plaza, between the commercial plaza and the residential buildings behind the plaza. The wheels got stolen a while ago, so it is the frame that I am looking for. The frame was tightly secured to the bike rack by a new U lock, so I did not think it would be stolen.

The bike was parked outside my office building, and a few hours later went missing.

Based on surveillance footage, about 9:35am, I locked the bike using a U-lock to the frame, front wheel and the bike rack. Around 9:40 a middle-aged man walked slowly past all the bikes and then a couple minutes later went back to the bike and lit a cigarette and waited for several minutes. He took out some tool and cut through the lock. There was one person who paused and approached him but at that point he had already cut through the lock and seemed to ignore that man and rode away.

I was taking out the trash this morning when I noticed that my bike was missing from the garage, nothing else was stolen and there were no signs of forced entry. I was out of town over the weekend and did not use the garage Monday. The incident could've or might've happened at anytime between those dates. I always lock one of the wheels to the frame.
