Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

The 3/8" diameter cable was cut and the bicycle was removed from the scene. The picture has red on the seat but the seat stolen is all black.

I think someone cut the lock and took the bike. It was locked to a large (6 inch diameter) street sign and the pole could not have been moved.

My bike was locked to a bike rack outside the Metra station while I was at work and only the rack (which attaches with bolts) was taken off it, not anything else that was bolted on, such as the seat or water bottle cage, and I couldn't see any other signs of problems with my bike. I have no idea why someone would go to the trouble of unscrewing four bolts to steal just the rack, and not just take the seat/seatpost it was attached to as well, or not try and steal the bike (although I'm happy they didn't). I'm assuming I'll never see the rack again, but wanted to report it here since it was a bike-related theft from an area that always has a number of bikes in it. The police were confused/didn't really care when I reported it, I'm guessing because it wasn't actually a bike that was stolen.

two bikes were stolen from my backyard near Addison and Ashland over the weekend of April 22-24. The two bikes were locked up to a electric meter thing but the cable combo lock was cut. One bike was an old hand me down Huffy worth little to nothing, but the other bike, as posted here was a project bike. Trek Antelope from the 1980's I had jsut restored as a nifty commuter. Please help if you see it.

Came out this morning to see street sign compromised (possibly from S&S work outside going on at the same time???) but the bike was gone and the S&S workers didn't know what I was talking about. Bike was locked through front wheel and frame with a newer U-lock with Flat Key.

My Bike was stolen out of my garage. It had a large U Lock with a flat key made by Gorilla I think, as well as had wheel lock bolts on both wheels. Not sure why someone would steel it unless they are an unreal locksmith.

The bike was U-locked to a bike rack outside of an academic building. The U-lock was bent together to create a large enough space to get the bike frame through.

Bike was cable locked to the bike rack in front of the California Clipper. Boyfriend arrived around 12:45am and asked where my bike was. Went out front to look for it, and it was no longer there. Asked bouncer at the clipper if they saw anything suspicious. He saw nothing shady, he did see some guys leaning up against the bike rack, but couldn't see if they were doing anything to the bicycles.

My bike was stolen from my apartment building on Sawyer and Belden yesterday in Logan Square. At 5:30 AM I heard a loud noise that woke me. I thought someone was inside my apartment. Once I cleared my apartment, I went back to bed thinking it was a vivid dream. At 8:45 AM I went downstairs to bike to work and noticed that the porch I'd attached it to had been vandalized. The strong wooden railings had been smashed to bits.

Locked bike, went for lunch coffee, came back, bike gone

The bike was u-locked to a sunk pole in a wrought iron fence. The other bars in the fence connected to the sunk pole with 4 cross bars, two up top and two at the bottom. The thieves cut through the connecting cross bars up top, two on each side of the pole, and bent the fence back. This allowed them to lift the u-lock up and over the pole, as the cross bars no longer stopped the u-lock from going up.

Ride by bike to work every day, all year round. Usually lock it to one of the three u-bike racks in front of the hospital. Both wheels are secured with a Zefal skewer lock, seat is bolted. When I left work at 5pm and walked out to the bike rack, the entire bike and the kryponite u-lock with which the bike was locked were missing from the rack. Another bike that I see every now and then was locked to spot I had used in the morning which leads me to think the theft took place in the morning hours. Shook the rack and it was mostly intact, a little loose. I really have no idea how the bike was taken from this u-bike rack.

Bike was locked to a sign through both wheels and the frame for about 4 hours when it was discovered stolen. I'm bummed.

Between noon and 3:45 PM on Wednesday April 18th, my apartment was broken into and along with other things my bike was stolen. I have filed a police report but I don't have the report number at the time of filling out this description, if you have any information please call me.

I was at soccer practice on the turf field at Montrose and Lake Shore Drive. My bicycle was in a heap of 5 or so bicycles on the south goal side, and someone came up and rode off on my bicycle, noted too late to catch.

The bike was stolen out of my storage unit. Someone in my building probably left our garage door open and the storage door must not have been closed properly.

The bike is stored in my storage unit inside a garage. The door to the storage unit was not fully closed, but the lock was locked. Someone in my building probably left garage door open.

It was stolen from the underground garage in my apartment building. I had it secured to a post with a cable and lock. They just cut the cable and goodbye. I will never use a cable again! I believe someone left the garage door open or the thief just walked in behind someone that was walking into the building and went downstairs to the garage to take a bike of his choice, which was mine.

someone was able to get into basement probably late at night or early am with some type of bolt cutters or saw. Probably walked in behind someone to get into building. Cut u-lock and rode off. This is not the first time a bike has been stolen from building. We are going thru videotapes now to see if they can get a picture of person.

Bike was locked (front wheel and frame)[newer U-lock w/flat key] to metal railing within gated porch area in front of apartment. Possible that gate was left open as it's shared with the other apartments. Metal bars that it was affixed to broken, either cut or simply pryed to breaking (approx. 0.5" thick bars, not hollow).
