Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Bike was locked with a cable and padlock to the end of a bike rack and attached to a cheap bike that was not stolen.

Some one must have cut the chain while i was gone, they left my Girlfriends bike, but hers was even older and smaller.

The bike was secured in a locked garage at our residence hanging on a bike rack on the wall. Thieves broke into my car on the street, stole the garage remote control and gained access to our garage in the alley. Another bike was stolen as well (see listing under TREK 7300 FX hybrid) .

Bike was stolen from a parking lot behind my apartment building the night of Sept 7/morning of Sept 8. It was locked through the frame with a Krytonite New York u-lock. The rack it was locked to was cut apart and the bike and lock taken.

I parked my bike purposely on a busy street in front of a busy bar (Cleo's on Chicago Ave at Damen). The U-lock is still attached to the bike rack. I think they got the seat off, and probably it was easy to take from there.

We had the bike parked but not locked in our back yard. We have a privacy fence with a locked gate. The thief must have jumped the fence and gotten the bike out of the gate because the gate was open when we got home.

I live around a nice neighborhood so I suspect someone was walking around and notice my bike locked for a few days then cut the lock between September 4-6 and took it somewhere within a mile radius.

Bike was locked to a City of Chicago rack at a busy intersection, on the south side of Madison Street a few feet from Wacker Drive, though the theft occurred on Labor Day so the intersection and sidewalks were less active than usual. Cable lock was cut cleanly with wire cutter and left leaning on an adjacent newspaper machine.

This is the closest rack to the station platform. I suspect someone got off the train, cut the cable, and took the bike back on the train. I ordinarily use a different bike rack.

My boyfriend and I just fixed my bike because the rear wheel was stolen about a month ago. So, to celebrate having a working bike again we went rode the path to the Lincoln Park Zoo. I'm a grad student and he's temporarily employed so we like to explore our new city doing cheap activities. The free zoo seemed to be a great option...Anyway, we locked it to his cheaper bike in a well-populated area near the entrance. We locked the frame and both wheels to his bike and to the bike rack. When we returned about 2 hours later we saw it definitely was not there, then saw the cut cable. It was not a typical cable that had a padlock attached to it; this was a much thicker cable lock we actually used to secure some of our exposed belongings in the bed of his truck when we moved. Needless to say, it was a horrible sinking feeling and my first words were "I don't care about bikes anymore, I don't want to talk about them or have another one." This broke his heart since he loves riding bikes and was so happy to expose me to something I truly enjoyed...of course I didn't mean what I said, I love biking, I was just so upset...I miss my bike and having that fun activity to do with him.

Bike was locked up right outside an open bar with people sitting down at outside tables mere feet from the bike rack. Went down the street to grab dinner at 8pm, when I returned at 9pm, the bike and lock had been stolen, no one recalled seeing the missing bike.

Bike was left locked in front of home overnight, and disappeared by morning.

Someone watched me lock my bike and monitor what I was doing. I was helping my friend move into him new apartment at the location in which the bike was stolen. I locked the bike up in front of the building as I and my friends were hauling his items into the building next to the location the bike was locked. The bike was 15 feet from the door we were using. In the 30-45 minutes we spent hauling his things into his new place the bike was stolen.

Bike was left under the Clybourn Metra station on Ashland, locked to a bike rack, between 8am and 3pm. U-lock and separate cable lock were cut through - clean cuts- and left at the scene. Thief also removed my basket. A couple months ago my seat was stolen from same place. Last week a nut was missing from my front tire - probably tampered with.

I ran in to CVS to grab a stick of deodorant. I took the light and seat bag off the bike before I was running in. I couldn't have been in the store more than two minutes. When I went to take my money out of my bag to pay, I realized that I had forgotten to put the lock on the bike. I ran out of the store immediately. My bike was gone. No one saw anything.

Found my garage door up last Sunday Morning. Two bikes and some tools were stolen. Reported to the police. My son's bike was the one I cared about. Brand new and he loved it.
