Chicago Stolen Bike Registry

Discovered my son's brand new bike that he got for his birthday in May was stolen from our garage (along with other items). Garage door was found open approximately 4" from ground / did not discover items missing for a week or so after I noticed garage door was ajar because our electricity was also cut and there were no lights in the garage. I will file police report after I can locate the purchase paperwork with serial number, etc.

i ALWAYS lock my bike up everywhere....except for my back porch. it's the top floor and i guess i'm too trustworthy of my neighbors who see me and my boyfriend always bringing our bikes up there. his was stolen as well and was worth much more...a black surly touring bike that he built up himself. i loved this bike so much. it was the first bike i became attached to.

My neighbors are pretty careless and like to leave the garage doors open. Over the course of a week it was missing. There's not much to tell except that I've had this bike since I was 9 and I want it back. Thanks!

I had ridden my bike and didn't lock it back up. It had a flat tire. It stays at my back door which is located on the side of my building which is gated. I noticed my bike was not there when I came home around 6 pm on November 13, 2008.

Myself and another owner confronted two suspicious looking people standing by the bike rack that got spooked and fled out the door. The thieves, one a woman in her 30s with long blond hair and scars all over her face (probably meth) and the other a man in his late 20s or early 30s who was on the small side, got spooked by our questioning and fled out the door. The left a pliers as well another bike that they had unlocked but didn't have time to take. In total, they made out with 4 bikes that day (one was my husband's bike, a bright yellow Trek 4300 mountain bike with brand new road tires.)

The bike was locked outside of the dining hall at 2:30 pm at which point I entered the building. 45 minutes later i returned and the bike as well as the lock were gone. At some point within that time someone clipped the lock and took the bike.

Was at Ihop eating. Bike was not in direct line of site from table but was able to check on it occasionally. It was locked up in well lit area in the front of the restaurant. Stole within ten min. of leaving restaurant.

Locked up bike in the "well lighted" Metra bike rack in front of Olgivie Transportation station at 7:30am. Came down from work at 5:00pm and there was no trace of her.

2 bikes were stolen at the same time. They were locked together around the frames and the seats with a cable lock around a parking meter. Both were taken within 10 minutes of going into a store and coming out. Two high school (?) kids with skateboards were scoping out the bikes before we left, but they took off down the street. We believe they came back and took them.

The time noted above is the time I left my apartment for class on Thursday. Upon returning around 11pm, my bike was no longer there. This has been my typical schedule over the past couple weeks since the bike had been strategically placed against the wall, such that it could not be seen from the sidewalk since I did not have a lock for it yet. As also noted above, the most unusual detail is the scrapes on my door that were also present following the dissappearance of my bike. I have not filed a police report yet as I do not have a picture of bike and there is nothing visually distinguisable about it. But if that is the recommendation, I will file one ASAP. So to answer your question, it has been suggested that someone may have been watching the bike as I had not been locking it or someone must have entered Bishop street through the gangway and seen the bike then deciding to take it, as it truly was not visibile from the regular sidewalk. That's really all I can ascertain about the situation.

Someone in my apartment building (Woodlawn House, TLC management) or who had access to the building stole my bicycle.

It was a Jamis Aurora, my only mode of transportation! I am heart broken, I am still paying off my bike with my credit card :'( The tires are 2 years old, very worn; the chain is a bit rusty and the right gear gauge is cracked off and the break is crooked (car door accident) The U LOCK is STILL ON THE BIKE! It's on the upper bar the seat is connected to, and anyone riding it would be nuisanced by the ULOCK getting in their way! (unless they pick the lock ;p) I left my bike in my back stairway on my apartment building, another tenant must have left the door gaping wide open! :(

This bike was locked is a passageway between the two courtyard buildings of my apartment complex. It was locked to one of the wooden posts that supports the back porches of the building and are bolted to the concrete. There are about 10 other bikes that other residents that were locked there, but mine is the only one that seems to be missing. There is a locking door to the entry of the passageway in the front, but it is open to the back alley. Its not a place that is easily noticeable; unless you were a resident, you would never notice it. I saw it there in the morning before work and it was gone when I came home from work

I left the side door to the garage unlocked, but closed. Somone found our front gate unlocked and walked down the side of the house to the garage, went in and took the bike, a power drill and a sleeping bag.

i locked my bike outside my appt within 9 hours it was stolen and i was sleeping the whole time. if anyone knows any information about my baby, please contact me at 203 848 4658.

I was working at SmallBar on Division on Sunday night. Locked up the bike at 530pm. Came back out at 100am. No wheels. The Phil Wood hubs require a 6mm allen wrench to remove the wheels. Someone saw my bike and pulled out there 6mm allen wrench and took my wheels for themselves. These were not scrappers, they know what they took.
